Wings of Virtus is a 2D retro style bullet hell shoot 'em up put together with an NW.js/Construct style engine. It looks like this was made by copying one of the numerous "how to make a shoot em up" tutorials online and changing a few things around. Usually this kind of thing is done as a cash grab but the developer made the noble choice to release this for free on Steam. Unfortunately, it lacks polish. Resolution is locked and the art assets are terrible, and seem to be trying to ape the primitive GameBoy portable gaming systems from Nintendo, but even Nintendo made those colour as soon as the technology was around. If this game was released on GameBoy it still would have done poorly. The hitboxes are also pretty bad. I just got onto this after reviewing GoBlaster, which is also a free to play shoot em up (but made with Godot, not a great engine but way better than Construct/NW.js), and the developer there didn't aim nearly as low for the artwork and gameplay experience. If you really want a free shoot 'em up, try that.2 found this helpful
SUMMARY
Mind-numbing to the core. Take a vertical scrolling shooter, or SHMUP, and make it move at a snail's pace, with a repetitive soundtrack, the most monotone art style and color palette imaginable, and the least creative gameplay you could possible come up with, and you have Wings of Virtus. There's not much else to say about it, mostly because there's not much else to it. You have a shield barrier, you have extra lives, you can shoot enemies and collect points...That's it. You could do better with Black Hornet for the Commodore 64, which was nearly 40 years ago.
OVERALL SCORE
Never Buy
REPLAY VALUE
Low1 found this helpful
Before I played Wings of Virtus, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
I'm not shoot-em-up expert, but I wanted to try something different for a change. It took me 4.5 hours to beat the game in normal mode. It may be a simple graphics game, but I've enjoyed it.
