Zero Below The Sun

Sigh… I had a lot of hope for this one, keeping a close eye for a good sale. I had played the demo, and while I knew it was very goofy looking (just look at the main character design), I thought it would either be 1) a solid retro style survival horror with fun mechanics or 2) a so-bad-it’s-good kitschy b-movie type game that would be good for a laugh. Unfortunately, it’s neither. Before I get into the myriad of frustrating bugs, the underlying gameplay loop is just awful. It’s technically a classic survival horror game, but boiled down so much until there’s nothing left. You are just running through a brightly lit monotonous lab setting, shooting goofy looking zombies with broken gunplay mechanics. The level design is completely linear, yet you are constantly asked to backtrack for fetch quests with zero shortcuts opening up. The only thing breaking this routine up are very occasional awfully designed puzzles. Nowhere in this routine is any charm, fun, challenge, etc.- just pure monotony, Now the bugs. On controller, you’re told the right shoulder button reloads, but in reality it’s the left shoulder. But wait, thats also the grenade button? Yep, they’re not mixed around, they…

A game made with more heart than skill. It's janky and buggy, but nonetheless fun and often surprising. It kept me playing till the credits rolled, so thumbs up!

I enjoyed my experience with this game if you are a fan of old school survival horror games like Resident Evil you will enjoy it. I did encounter one issue while fighting a monster with the knife I ended up falling through the floor in one area but it only happened the one time and I avoided it the next time by just shooting the creature. I wished I could have finished the game but the connecting the wires puzzle proved impossible.

A sort of cross of Early and Mid-series Resident Evil with some splashes of The Thing is an interesting idea. Unfortunately it's hard to enjoy through the myriad of technical shortcomings. Many of these issues are not only visible, but very apparent in the first 15 minutes, which would imply to me that this game had practically no testing before release. Maybe after a few patches there's a good survival horror game hiding in here, but I'd wait until it's been patched in before buying.

BUYER BEWARE! There is a decent bit to say about this game. But ultimately what is most important to bring attention to is that this game is one of the most broken games I have ever played. This includes running into a game breaking glitch. Zero Below The Sun is janky and ugly, but has a certain type of charm on the surface that someone like me can appreciate. But the moment you crack below the surface, it starts to go downhill fast. The game doesn't have the best art style going for it. But, again, it can be charming. Controlling it, however, is anything but. Nothing feels fine tuned. The aiming is possibly the worst I've experienced. Sometimes shots will simply phase through your target even when your aim is dead on. The controller support is mostly busted, including assigning throwing grenades and reloading to the same button with no option to remap in game. It just feels like you're constantly fighting with playing the game, whether that's in combat or just trying to interact with the environment or navigate menus. The story is old hat, but I don't expect anything too groundbreaking when looking to get that indie survival horror fix. However, the lack of even a little bit of…

Do Not Listen To The Negative Reviews These Are The People That Have To Much Difficulty Cause Its Too Hard and Also These Are People That Play Fortnite , COD and Also Minecraft And Apex Listen To The Positive Reviews Cause They Have Played A Horror Game Before This Game Is Fantastic And Captures The Essence Of A Classic Survival Horror Game And Also The Music And Atmosphere Are Great And So Are The Monster Designs and Mechanics
