✦ AI summary

Rogue Lords is a creative roguelike with a standout "cheat" mechanic that lets you shift buffs and debuffs between yourself and enemies mid-fight, offering strong strategic depth and variety that keeps runs fresh. However, players are divided on execution: while some praise the challenge and synergy systems, others complain about inconsistent damage type logic, overly tanky enemy scaling, heavy reliance on RNG for viability, buggy skill interactions, and poor UI design that makes the game feel unfair rather than challenging.

Picked this up on sale and it was well worth it. The difficulty curve is decent — challenging enough to keep runs interesting without feeling unfair or grindy. What really stands out is the sheer variety of mechanics; there's a ton of fun, creative systems layered into the combat and run structure that keep things fresh well past the first few hours. The standout feature, though, is the ability to "cheat" by shifting buffs, debuffs, and extra lives between yourself and your enemies mid-fight. It adds a surprising amount of strategic depth and versatility — turning fights that seem lost into clever comebacks, and giving you real agency over how a battle plays out rather than just relying on RNG. Overall, a really solid rogue-lite with a unique hook. Totally recommended, especially if you can grab it on a discount.

Skills can only be used once per combat unless you use the "recharge" option which costs action points. Enemies attack or buff themselves every turn without fail. This really ♥♥♥♥♥ the game up. Do not bother with this game. Also the design, jesus christ, sometimes a flail to the face does spiritual damage, othertimes a character that looks the same will do HP damage with the same flail. Enemies scale far too quickly, having hundreds of hit points and healing themselves every other turn, and remember - you need to recharge skills and they don't. Sometimes you die super early on because you just haven't gotten the powerups you need to deal with fight 2-3, and that's pure RNG. Your ability to affect things is sometimes nil, the game is too random. this game has been abandoned by the developers and you can clearly see why.

So a bit complicated of a review. I can understand the critics. To best describe it, It's a mix of slay the spire, darkest dungeon. It blends really well. There are multiple chapters, each take a long time, and there are character unlocks that allow you to synergize abilities which you'll need to figure out as the game gets progressively harder. The pacing feels slightly off, perhaps the game is longer than it should be. The critics say that the enemies are repetitive, and they are, but their scaling and power places the focus on your villains rather than the enemy strategies. It does feel like at the end of the game the developers were a bit bored, and just thought of what they'd need to do to end the game. No crazy boss battle, just the same sort of battles you've fought along the way. Really should have been something unique or better towards the end. All and all pretty okay game.

This is a fun, and unique game with the "Devil Mode". BUT it is very challenging and the game does make the targets damage sponges as posted by many in various posts. BUT BUT while this can be viewed as a negative, what it does is force you to use all of your strategy to pass the level. Replaying a level multiple times is GOING TO HAPPEN as you are forced to deal with RNG (as is the case with these games) but also you will have to rework your strategy and understand what skills to choose and/or what team composition should look like. I really recommend the game and for the sale price (I think I bought it for under $3, which I cannot even buy my Venti PSL at Starbucks for), its a must buy!

One of the worst roguelikes i ever played in terms of UI design. Recommend skip.

Some mechanics don't work properly Headless Horsemans skill "Opening" steals a manuever which i used on Provoke enemy and it backfired the damage to him losing me the run Weakness "Zombie" which transforms ANY healing into damage, yet the enemies "Regeneration" which restores 8 to 15 HP SP deals only the HP damage but heals SP, the same thing is when they use their action to heal HP and SP On the 3 boss sisters Fox silence worked maybe 50% of time
