Dead Reckoning: The Long Drift

I want to like this game, but it's thinner than it looks, and the writing (regardless of authorship) reads like Claude trying to galaxy-brain you into a bad decision. On the positive side, I love the theme, the skeleton of the resource system, and the visual aspects of the presentation. I just wish that the different subsystems of the game felt more weighty and more strongly coupled, and that the writing sounded human. Come to think of it, it'd be fun if the writing style were coupled to the mechanics of the game, maybe related to the AI autonomy value ... but I didn't notice much correlation, so I don't think that's the current explanation.

Not a bad roguelike semi-realistic spaceship/colony simulator. Surely, it's still far from finished product, but you can already play and have fun with it. Pros: +Detailed simulation of ship / crew. Not just a number, every crewmember has a small story, name and history. Kinda brings that Dwarf Fortress'esque aesthetics. +Not just the spaceship, but a colony simulation as well. +Lots of option for "roleplaying" your missions. +Lots of different good/bad outcomes for your missions. Cons: -No metaprogression. So far the biggest con for me personally. All runs are isolated, randomized systems every time. I'd love to see the future of my colonies hundreds years after, maybe even use them as pit-stops for much longer missions hundreds of light-years away. -After several runs, you have to find ways to extract fun by yourself, i.e. those your-own roleplay scenarios. -Most choices are impactless, you have only immediate result (like power down, hull up etc). Not sure if this is a bad thing though.

It's interesting so far. The space journey is more fun than the colony part. I love the design and sounds. Very retro. Takes me back to the millennium era of gaming. The game has an Uplink vibe. I look forward to the finished product.

This game looks quite intriguing, and currently has about 10 hours of content. Flight part is fun in the first few hours, but quickly becomes repetetive. The colony sim part is currently very short and "early access" Only buy is you want to support further developement of the game. It really does stand out, and dev made an effort to build something unique

I like this game a lot. The dry, technical writing is on-point and still manages to keep me interested. I am hoping for more interactivity over time. There's cameras to watch your ships interiors for example, I'd like there to be something to do. Another thing that could be cool is somekind of terminal you could use to fix things manually (or break them completely). I would also like the ship model to change when you prepare for the flight, just for the added immersion. There's a lot of potential here and it's already really good. Curious to see how it will develop.

This is one of the best games of the year. Huge thanks to the developer. When you visualize these events and the incredible distances between stars, it gives you goosebumps. The game captures the experience of long-range interstellar travel in great detail, requiring you to plan every move years in advance. A single wrong decision can have a dramatic impact on the fate of your ship.
