Encased: A Sci-Fi Post-Apocalyptic RPG

Recommended for fans of turn-based tactics and isometric RPGs. Plays pretty similarly to the Wasteland series which I would also recommend. Good story, variety of weapons, skills, character builds, difficulty settings, companions. Some voice acting but lots of unvoiced dialogue and narrative. Focus on exploration, variety of ways to overcome some problems/quests but a lack of direction makes coming back to it difficult as it is easy to lose track of what you need to do, if you ever knew in the first place.

Its a good cRPG, scratches that Wasteland and Fallout 2 itch.

So full disclosure, I got this for free, not sure why, honestly just found it in my library and I know I didn't buy it. I highly enjoy it so far, Reminds me a lot of Fallouts 1 and 2, same sort of premise, post apocalyptic turn based combat RPG. Great stealth system, the character creator was easy to figure out, easy to customize characters with your own portraits you can add to the game files. I always enjoy sneaking around snatching up everything not nailed down and so I went criminal, or Orange Wing. But you also have Blue, Silver, White, and Black, blue is like your maintenance and repair class, white is science, silver is like corporate elite, and black is the Guards/Soldier types, Orange are criminals offered a new start by going to the dome and doing general labor type things, or dangerous jobs. Cool skill tree I'm still figuring out. Overall great game. If you liked Fallout before it was a FPS, or if you still like RPGs, I definitely recommend it.

Encased isn’t a bad game, but it never really grabbed me. It’s a bit too indie for my tastes — the graphics are tolerable and not retro, but nothing special. The world and premise are interesting, yet the overall experience never quite comes together in a way that made me want to finish it. I’ve started it a few times over the years, but I always drift away long before the ending. I eventually read up on the endings and decided not to bother completing it. Some games the ending won't gel with how I want it to finish up. For me, Encased ended up being more of an “I have nothing else to do” game — something I picked up while bouncing between RPGs and wanting more of the genre. It scratches the itch a little, but not enough to keep me invested. It is not Not recommended, but also not recommended. That comes out messy and wrong. I think it depends on who you are — just not compelling enough to stick with but not entirely something to miss. I've invested 92+ hours into it, I do not regret my purchase. If cost is irrelevant and you are bored and like the genre why not try it?
