About The Message from Deep Space
The Message from Deep Space puts you in the role of a mission translator deciphering an alien language transmitted by a mysterious meteorite through radio waves and puzzle-solving in 1973. Build understanding from universal constants and scientific principles while collaborating with your team to unlock what the aliens are trying to communicate across the stars.
Premise
The Message from Deep Space is an odyssey of puzzles. Take the role of the mission's Translator, working alongside a scrappy band of scientists, and venture headfirst into the world of deciphering an alien language --- completely from the ground up.Scenario
Set in 1973, Earth is the recipient of a meteorite that broadcasts radio waves. In the role of the mission's Translator, the player is responsible for designing responses to the meteorite's transmissions, which, if correct, will elicit new messages from the meteorite. Voyager I
Inspired by The Golden Record aboard the Voyager I space probe, The Message from Deep Space takes a realistic approach to deciphering an interstellar message. Beginning with the limited universal constants available to technologically advanced civilizations, the message spans a range of real-world fields of math & science. Decoding the message is tough, but with the support of the game's meticulous linguist, the single-minded computer programmer, and the affable astronomer, it is a challenge fit for anyone with Curiosity and Perseverance. The Message from Deep Space — game info

What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
The Message from Deep Space is praised by players for its creative and engaging math and science-based puzzles that deliver an emotional story, though opinions diverge on its later stages as the puzzle difficulty becomes more abstract and quality-of-life improvements dry up, causing some to find it tedious. Players feel the game is best suited for those with strong STEM knowledge and appreciation for intellectual challenges, with most recommending it despite minor frustrations with certain puzzle solutions and pacing issues in the endgame.
Incredibly fun puzzles, and had me tearing up by the end.
super fun math-based puzzle game, really made me think about what the aliens wanted me to say. good game.
i've been tricked into doing stoichiometry but it was worth it
it's a game made for a certain type of person (me)
One of the most unique and creative games I've played. Thoroughly enjoyed the first few hours, though it slowly became less and less enjoyable for me. I really enjoyed the constant quality of life enhancements that occurred throughout the early game, but that also lead to me not liking the later parts of the game. It's quite strange, since during the early parts, you get an "upgrade" every 20 minutes or so. Then all of a sudden, there's 0 upgrades for the rest of the game. I enjoyed the dialogue at the start, but eventually the constant interruptions became annoying, so I disabled it. I'm ~90% of the way through and I don't think I'm going to finish it. I really enjoyed the math/science portions of the game, but as it got to more abstract concepts, my confidence it some of the terms slowly started dwindling. As this built up, it became incredibly frustrating to figure out what was going on. Referencing past transmissions is miserable due to the lack of any "upgrades" later on in the game. Some things that I think would improve the later parts of the game: * Way of viewing all transmissions an entry is used in (without scrolling through 100's of them...) * Clicking a word to open…
A game that makes you feel simultaneously both smart as hell and dumb as rocks. If you didn't pay attention in high school, you might have a hard time. I've seen some other reviews noting that the game can get tedious near the 800 message mark and beyond, and I am inclined to agree. I had to look up an answer online for about 5 total messages, most of which I thought "THAT'S WHAT I WAS TRYING TO SAY" when I saw them. That being said, those minor annoyances were a drop in the bucket compared to the vast majority of really fun puzzle solving for the rest of the time. I highly recommend this game. My only regret is that I can only truly experience it once.
