✦ AI summary

DreadOut is a janky indie horror game with charming ideas and decent atmosphere that players find surprisingly engaging despite its flaws. The main complaints center on persistent performance issues like stuttering and camera problems in the early game, frustrating combat mechanics, and a punishment-based death system that feels more annoying than meaningful. Players acknowledge the game has merit for those seeking a quirky horror experience, though the technical problems and gameplay frustrations suggest it may be better experienced on sale rather than at full price.

Short, janky, incohesive, but surprisingly charming despite all that. Just as I remember it being when I first watched let's plays of it 12 years ago. Good times.

Your daily fix of a janky indie horror.
Not recommended Aug 24, 2026
Unplayable due to frequent stutters and camera jumps which seem to be fixed after you complete the school area. But that area is like one quarter of the game. It is unbelievable that the game is on sale in Steam with a performance problem this frequent, and it is still not fixed after all these years. On top of that while the game has interesting ideas and good atmosphere, combat can get extremely annoying rather than entertaining or even scary. Plus the idea that you must walk further in Limbo the more you die is interesting, but from a gameplay perspective it is very frustrating and only feels like it was meant to punish the player. You keep dying and game is making you run more as a punishment, because the mechanic otherwise makes no sense. What is even the point of that? Overall don't buy this game, moreso due to the constant stuttering in Act 1 than anything else. It is an objective flaw that will destroy anything entertaining this game offers.
