If you miss the old games, play the old games, those are still fun

We had it good back in 2000s: Doom 3, Half-Life 2, Quake 4, FEAR, Call of Juarez, Prey, Battlefield 2, Serious Sam 2 and others. The game still got it after 20 years. It's short (less than 10 hours, i think), it switches pace, doesn't give you fatigue of doing same stuff, it's atmospheric, no BS cutscenes or guiding hand tutorials. It's the game you lock in to and beat in couple of evenings like Prey. Gunplay is amost fine. The only thing i hate is machine gun. Other guns are pretty much solid. Real con i see is that it's takes some hoop jumps to run every Id tech 4 game properly: set custom height, width, aspect ratio, screen refresh. Also r_multisampling turned out to be antialiasing, not texture filtering which i cranked up to 16 and been wondering why game's lagging (Id Tech is bad with Anti-Aliasing so set multisampling to 0 or 2 at best).

No lo pase en su tiempo, pero ya pude!. La lampara es esencial porque casi todo esta oscuro tiene buena variedad de armas, aunque la escopeta se siente muy debil.

This game is basically Quake II-2 but it's a narrative driven game with a lot of waiting around for NPCs to do stuff. The first 2 hours are boring as sin but the game gets slightly better when you're able to move quicker and get access to the rest of the guns. There isn't much in terms of variety in this game. It's a lot of metal hallways and shooting a lot of the same enemy only for a bigger enemy to spawn to break up the monotony occasionally. Sometimes you think you're in for a boss fight only to be let down when it's just a set piece that lasts 30 seconds and disappears. As for positives; the game looks good provided you patch it to make ultra graphics settings work. If it has anything going for it, it's got good enemy design and a bleak body horror atmosphere so if your favorite Doom is Doom 3, maybe you'll enjoy this game? If you want something similar but with better weapons, gameplay, characters and way more personality, maybe track down Prey (2006) and play that instead. As it stands Quake 4 is not a good Quake game. Don't make this your first experience with the series because Quake 1 and 2 are so, SO much better and there's a reason this game is mostly forgotten ou…

By far the worst Quake. Removed any gibbing, reduced weapon quality, and filled with one-off encounters such as auto scrollers and vehicle segments. Extreme reuse of assets makes every level near identical. No super shotgun either which is the biggest sin.

Not mind blowing, but still a fun shooter. This game definitely switches Quake into a more generic, slower military shooter, without Quake 1&2's fun/fast movement. The level design does account for this pace, but the level design isn't interesting at all. There really isn't much for me to say. I liked the game, but it wasn't special at all. The weapons felt weak at times while the enemy's had pretty strong weapons. I still wouldn't say I was bored by it, but it wasn't the best shooter experience ever. I do like the graphics of ID Tech 4, and Quake 4 creates a decent atmosphere with it.
