Feels like it doesn't know what kind of game it wants to be. The lore sets up the Reclaimers as an elite, one-of-a-kind unit sent into the deepest, most dangerous sectors. However, with how the game currently plays, I feel like the standard DRG Dwarves could handle these missions like any other Tuesday with their equipment. My biggest personal gripe is the shield/armor mechanics. Why do the regular DRG dwarves have regenerative shields, while the Reclaimers rely on single use armor that they have to constantly scavenge around the caves to fix? It actively makes you feel less powerful than the regular dwarves. The game structure also takes away what makes DRG great. DRG thrives on flexibility; you can jump in for individual missions, or commit to a longer 3-mission Deep Dive if you have the time. Rogue Core forces a massive commitment instead. You essentially have to be fully dedicated to playing a full Deep Dive every single time you boot it up. Maybe I'll come back to this later in development, but at the moment, I just don't feel like booting this up again.

I picked up Rogue Core on its EA launch, just as I did DRG. I have the utmost respect for Ghost Ship Games and was very, very excited to give this a shot. However, I think my sentiments around the game after putting a few dozen hours in and subsequently putting it down for a time could be summarized in one sentence: I find myself spending more of my time in Rogue Core hoping to have fun than I do actually having fun. And don't get me wrong- I HAVE enjoyed playing Rogue Core. But there are a myriad of problems that are the primary reason why I just can't bring myself to play more or recommend the game to friends in its current state. For one, the upgrade and progression systems are just lackluster. You spend enough time to unlock some of the wild and interesting overclocks in DRG, and you might be tempted to think that a roguelike DRG would turn that up to 11. Instead, many of the upgrades are just stat modifiers- longer duration here, higher percentages there, milquetoast fare for a roguelike- and the truly transformative upgrades are few and far between. It's readily apparent after playing the game for some time that build design is restrained and trying t…

I really enjoyed this, nice replay value. Fun to hope in and just shoot some stuff and take what the game gives you instead of making you plan a loadout.
