Subsistence

in theory its one of the best survival games i've ever played. in practice a wolf will take an arrow to the face, run zig zags towards you, take another 5 shots to the face, kill you in 2 seconds, then when you respawn you still have an infection. the resource gathering is jank af you run around looking for randomly spawning crates and hope to the rng gods you get something kinda useful. save yourself 20$, several hours of pain and immense frustration and don't play this game in its current state.

Needs more difficulty/AI settings, but now it has mod support, hazza!

I actually like the grind in Subsistence. Gathering resources, hunting, crafting and building a base is exactly the kind of survival gameplay I enjoy. What really lets the game down for me is the food spoilage. You can catch a chicken or rabbit and it dies in your inventory far too quickly. You can also prepare food and put it in your inventory ready for an adventure, only for it to spoil before you've even had a proper chance to use it. That makes preparing for longer trips frustrating. I want to be able to stock up on food, head out exploring and spend time away from the base without constantly worrying about everything I've prepared going bad. The other major issue is the lack of a proper story or meaningful endgame. I don't mind grinding, in fact, I enjoy it, but I want that grind to feel like it's building towards something. There's a decent survival game underneath it all, but the ridiculously fast food spoilage and lack of meaningful long-term progression really hurt it for me. Not recommended in its current state.

this is not a game for the fient of heart, it will test your survival skills to the max.

takes some time to collect all res needed for upgrades and builds, but great graphics and good character survival physics. some combat animation and physics tweaks when defending or attacking animals would be a definite game changer, but overall, 8/10
