It's so boring, I can't believe. The combat is very good, but the rest of the game is T R A S H

An hardcore action game which is almost perfect in its execution. And I don't use the term "perfect" light-heartedly. The title is a boss-rush with some walking sequences between each fight to showcase the story. The combat system is based on only five inputs: the left stick to move, the right stick to shoot in that direction, a button to attack melee, a button to parry, and a button to dodge. That's it. Quick to learn, quick to apply. Yet, every boss has its unique twists, and the whole structure of the fights is made so that although they are hard, it is possible to learn each on of them during the fight itself without getting constant "Game Overs". This is due to a combination of three mechanics: healing, "resurrection", and incremental phases. The first one is tied to the fact that parrying attacks restores a bit of health, and that multiple bosses have projectiles that can be destroyed to get some healing. The second one is the most interesting one and that really improves the whole structure of the game: both the player and the boss have a set amount of lives, with the player having three and each boss having a different amount — each of which will represent a phase of the…

Eight years, eight long years to get through this game. I remember booting it up for the first time, playing this game on mouse and keyboard, having an absolute blast, until I got to the green ♥♥♥♥♥. The swamp ♥♥♥♥♥♥ is an absolutely disgusting boss. He ♥♥♥♥♥♥ me up again and again and again, perpetually pushing me to abandon the game, about five times over the course of those eight long years. I would come back after about a year or two, after hearing a song from the ost, or genuinely waking up and thinking to myself, "I can beat him, I am strong enough." I would proceed to easily beat the other three bosses, and just fail on the last attempt when dealing with the toxic ♥♥♥♥, down the sewers. I have no idea what changed in me. Maybe it was a switch to the pad, or maybe it was the absolute triumph of will bestowed upon me when I finished another hard-as-nails game called Kill Knight (which is such a vastly different game but somehow feels very similar). I don't know. I do not fully understand why he was so hard for me before and how I beat him on my third try this time. What I do know, is that I ♥♥♥♥♥♥ him up, beat the whole remaining ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ squad and then ♥♥♥♥♥♥ him up again, on…

Absolutely incredible. Not a forever game, but it makes sure the moments you have with it are incredible, which frankly, is more important.
