About the Game

In this game, you control ex-General Xzus as he breaks free of the hellish Purgatory, dark ghouls and skeletons in tow, in order to exact revenge on those who have wronged him in life. He also wishes to find and protect his daughter Lucile. You use Purgatory as your base, where you can improve stats, complete challenges and hire new creatures to your cause, ready for the challenge that lies ahead in the land of the living. This takes the form of a map, with each point providing a new journal entry and battle challenge. Many of these battles include hidden surprises such as ambushes and treasure chests, in order to add additional levels of enjoyment to the title.

Reviews of the original Purgatory on Steam:

\ "Love this game! I just want to play it all day. Awesome music and sounds too."
Bechstein "Another tactical RPG like Fire Emblem or Overfall; this time in a grungy, impressionist pixel art aesthetic that pits your undead army against another undead army. Plenty of reading, story and customization. The troops' skill trees are quite easy to follow, and it's all alright now."
Youtube - Tkillaah "Think strategic, Make smart moves so you can build a big army, it got a lot of levels, This is def not a bad game, and if you like monsters then you shouldn't doubt getting this even without discount"

Our Story:

The Purgatory series is a labour of love. I've always been a fan of fantasy strategy games like Age of Wonders and HoMM (and more recently Fire Emblem). I love to write for the interactive medium that is video games, and Xzus' story (some of you may recognise from my Data Hacker RPG series) is one that I really wanted to expand upon.

I really hope you like what we're doing here. From my own time testing and tweaking the game, I think it's shaping up to be something really awesome.

I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing. Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side. With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of y…

Purgatory II, developed by New Reality Games and Eduard Mirica and published by New Reality Games, is a dark fantasy turn-based strategy title that builds upon the foundation of its predecessor while attempting to deepen both its tactical systems and narrative ambition. Set in a grim afterlife where betrayal and vengeance define the protagonist’s journey, the game places players in command of infernal legions as they wage calculated battles across hex-based maps in pursuit of redemption and revenge. It is a project that clearly strives for depth and atmosphere, even if its execution occasionally reveals the limitations of its indie origins. The story centers on General Xzus, a once-powerful warrior betrayed and cast into a purgatorial realm. Awakening among demonic forces, he resolves to assemble an army and fight his way back to the mortal world to exact revenge on those who wronged him. The narrative unfolds through text-heavy sequences and mission-based progression, with lore revealed gradually as players unlock new encounters. While the writing provides context and thematic consistency, its delivery is largely static, relying on dialogue boxes and journal-style exposition rath…

Vaporware. Devs released a concept version of a game with very little refinement or playability and are nowhere to be seen for years.
