Experience seamless day and night cycles, with dynamic clouds, fog, rain and sounds spicing it all up. Change switches, drive, haul and leave trains at desired locations - the choice is yours.

Optionally, you can also play in sandbox mode where economy is not in focus - where you can just have fun doing anything you want without consequences.
Take part in a dynamic industrial chain, where deliveries are procedurally generated for more than 80 cargo types. The output of locations varies, and almost no two deliveries are the same. Haul cargo between industries, or do the shunting and logistics that help the stations create more deliveries. Pick orders and move cargo as desired, according to your own plans, licensing and hauling capacity.Experience in-depth intricacies of six realistic, accurate steam and diesel locomotive classes with varying transmission types, plus some extra vehicles. Through behavior, sounds, physics and interaction, their characteristics are designed to fully immerse and challenge you. On top of that, you'll find yourself spontaneously involved in coupling, servicing, brake securing, shunting and other railroad procedures.
As a side activity, you may find yourself investing time and money finding and restoring unique locomotive variant derelicts, which you can then customize with numerous useful gadgets. Gadgets are various devices that can improve driving performance, such as digital speedometers, clinometers, colored ambient lights, distance trackers, etc. You can buy them in shops and install them wherever you want, using various tools.
Built from the ground up for both PC and VR, Derail Valley lets you experience it spatially present with the supported mainstream PC VR devices - truly inside the simulator and using your own hands to operate the controls. This is the ultimate, closest experience to being a real railroader! You can seamlessly alternate your progress between the PC and VR sessions, as you prefer.
Be it a derailment, collision, blown traction motor, boiler explosion, brake failure, HAZMAT disaster or even something as mild as wheelslip on a rainy slope, Derail Valley doesn't just present you with a popup screen when you make a mistake - you get to experience the full consequences of your actions, even if they're a rare occurrence.
Whether you are new to trains or an experienced veteran, the game features tutorials that are quick to get you going. A comprehensive user manual also exists, for when you want to dive deep into the details.

What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Derail Valley is praised by players as an exceptionally immersive and fulfilling train simulator that successfully blends RPG-like progression with realistic maintenance mechanics and locomotive customization, creating a strong sense of purpose in gameplay. However, some players express frustration with the game's slow development pace during its extended early access period and report persistent bugs such as disappearing tools and unresponsive controls that detract from the experience.
Hope we can get optimized ram usage before the end of the year (I'm really really hyped up about B100 using %100 of my ram🥀)2 found this helpful
Derail Valley is the best train simulator I've ever had the pleasure of playing. Unlike most other train sims I've played, DV doesn't sit you at your desk and have you manage speed for hours on end so you can arrive at your destination in 4 hours. Instead, you're on reasonably hazardous track, and there's no HUD telling you what the speed limits been for the past hour. You have to watch out for track signage or get jumpscared by taking a 30km/h turn at 80km/h. The punishment for failure isn't a black screen and load checkpoint, either. The railroad demands payment for damages and you are at fault, with the government coming in force too if there's environmental damage. A derailment can set you back a couple of hours worth of jobs, and particularly bad derailments can cost you several hundred thousand dollars. Fortunately, as an independent contractor, your rates are exorbitant and your service is quick. A goob job from Harbour to City West can net you 50k with about an hour of work, and that's without the time bonus. Train operation is complex enough to be satisfying and combined with the constant speed limit and gradient changes, there's hardly a moment where you're not doing som…1 found this helpful
nice
I've played for a while now and to put it shortly - it's great. Probably best intro to train-sims and fun, rewarding expirience. Definitely worth the full price. The only con is slow development. However, it's a steady development with lots of content each patch.
Derail Valley is one of the best games I’ve played. It gives me exactly what I want from a simulator: a job to do, a machine to learn, and the freedom to figure things out myself. I’m coupling wagons, shunting, driving trains, planning what to do next, and dealing with the consequences when I get it wrong. Progress feels earned because I’ve learned how to do the work better. The trains are incredibly detailed. The controls, sounds and way each locomotive handles make them feel like machines you actually have to understand. Learning one is satisfying in its own right, and VR makes every cab feel that much more convincing. There’s always the temptation to take just one more job. Derail Valley combines that hands-on detail with freedom, progression and real consequences. If you love trains or the satisfaction of learning how a machine works, this game is brilliant.
