The insurmountable dread this game causes is like no other horror game I have ever played. The story, lighting, and sounds/music tie this game together so well. I have yet to find another game that can immerse me so well. Daniel's sanity is [b]my[/b] sanity. Daniel's fear is [b]my[/b] fear. [i] Redeem us both Daniel. Looking for horror games to play this spooky season, I found this old gem in my collection and realized I had never actually finished it back in the day. I gave it another go, and it's still very effective in creating a truly unpleasant (in a good way) experience. Frictional Games took their time and honed their formula with the Penubmra series. They never go for the ovbious scares, but rather focus on mood and player agency. A classic horror game for a reason. This was a massive thing in 2010 with the budding lets-play and early streaming scene. Everyone wanted to be scared by this game. I was therefore quite surprised how few have actually played this game all the way through. The completion achievement is only at about 7%.
My favorite game ever, it is an unbridled shame how this game's popularity has fallen. The modding community drops bangers still to this day and it doesn't seem to be stopping anytime soon.
