This game is up there as one of the better horror games I've ever played. Interestingly Amnesia the bunker takes alot of DNA from the penumbra series in general moreso than the rest of the amnesia games. The story in this game is really interesting once things start to pick up. The puzzles were interesting at times but slightly annoying at others, overall good puzzles but a bit mixed on them. The enemies in this game are a bit meh. The atmoshphere is really great though. Very good especially for its time. As a horror game I'd give it a 7 or 8/101 found this helpful
They've taken your ability to fight back in this one, which has spiked up the spookiness level and has opened the way for more creative puzzles and encounters. In turn besides getting deeper into the story, it also feels more immersive. A worthy sequel to the first one.1 found this helpful
[h1]Penumbra: Black Plague[/h1] [h3]Improved but still Mediocre Survival Horror[/h3] [h3]Not worth trying[/h3] Penumbra: Black Plague is the sequel to Overture, featuring a better-paced narrative, a stronger horror atmosphere, better level design, and more competent and terrifying enemy design. However, the puzzles remain just as uninspired and overly simplistic as those in the first entry. It is a more enjoyable experience than its predecessor thanks to many of its improvements. However, it still has rough gameplay and falls short of reaching its full potential. [h3]Gameplay[/h3] This sequel has a greater emphasis on stealth mechanics, as it completely removes the ability to fight back against enemies. Instead, our character is relentlessly pursued by mutated humanoid creatures that actively search for him and force us to rely on hiding rather than running everywhere. Removing the combat system was a smart decision, as it gives enemy encounters a much stronger sense of fear and vulnerability. However, it also limits the ways in which these encounters can be approached. One of the game's weakest aspects is its experimental environmental puzzles that rely on a trial and error app…
