This game is worth recommending for the achievement showcase, especially since it’s one of those titles that lets you unlock alphabet achievements you can use to customize your Steam profile. Beyond that, it delivers exactly what you’d expect for its price. The gameplay is very straightforward: simply drive continuously for about 90 minutes and you’ll complete the game. It’s easy overall, but there’s a catch — if you lose in the final minute, you’ll have to restart from the beginning. The soundtrack adds to the experience with a retro vibe that fits the theme nicely. While playing, I couldn’t help but imagine a scene straight out of The Transporter: a tense car chase with a bomb strapped to the vehicle. Just like in the movie, you can’t slow down too much or speed up too fast — otherwise, it’s game over. That constant balance of speed gives the game its unique tension, even within its simple mechanics.

OutDrive is not a game, rather it's essentiall a music visualisation that requires you to interact with it in order to keep the music going. That in and of itself is not necessarily a bad thing if you are into this kind of thing, and the music is definitely great (if you're into synth wave, that is). However, in the end OutDrive is too much work for just enjoying some music IMHO, particularly the controls are quite awful and the application is also susceptible to physics bugs that can drop you through the floor without recovery. That said, despite being rated as unsupported on Steam Deck, I could play it there without further issues, but the lack of Steam Input support still makes the controls not very fun.

From the moment it begins, it’s clear that OutDrive is less concerned with mechanical complexity and more focused on mood, rhythm, and atmosphere, positioning itself as a kind of playable music-driven journey rather than a competitive or progression-based driving game. The premise is unusual and sets the tone for everything that follows. You are driving endlessly through a glowing, surreal landscape, with the speed of your car directly tied to the survival of your critically injured girlfriend. Maintaining a specific speed range becomes the central mechanic, turning acceleration and braking into a constant balancing act. It’s a concept that sounds strange on paper but works surprisingly well at first, creating a subtle tension that keeps you engaged as you try to stabilize your pace.
