A decently short but interesting and informative view of how Valve develops their hardware, software and games. Not only is it informative but also has some neat little interactions along the way! If you are into IT, complex projects or just like how great minds think, definitely worth checking out.4 found this helpful
While it can feel somewhat fluffy and promotional at times (although similarly, very self-aware of the flaws and tribulations of Valve and its development process), the real gold of Geoff Keighley's Half-Life: Alyx - Final Hours is the treasure trove of development material, conceptual artwork, behind the scenes footage, and never-before-seen information about cancelled games, which easily earns it an extra recommendation. While I did personally find Half-Life: Alyx's audio commentary more informative on the tangible iterative process of the game's design, aesthetics, and sound, Keighley wraps it in a well-told story that emphasizes the human element within the art. (I especially appreciated using Jay Benson's relationship with his father and eventually, his daughter, through Half-Life as a sweet bookend.)1 found this helpful
Half-Life: Alyx - Final Hours is an interactive book about the making of the VR game Half-Life: Alyx (HL:A). HL:A is the best VR experience I've had, and one of the best game experiences I've ever had, so I was interested in finding out some of the backstory of the development of this game from Valve. The format is that you scroll through a lot of text, interspersed with images, videos and interactive mini-games. There's quite a lot of reading, which may be a barrier to some, but I found the information very interesting. The concept art and prototype gameplay videos show how things changed during the lifetime of the project, which was a long one! I would say that this is a must for any fan of HL:A and fans of the Half-Life universe in general. It took me a couple of hours to get through and was well worth the time spent. Some of the most interesting content was discovering how things work organisationally in Valve, and of course there may be some clues on whether HL3 will ever emerge from the company...
Must-have for any Valve Fan.
Worth checking out, if you are interested in Half-life and the BTS surrounding half-life. Along with some interesting intractive elements.
