What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Players praise the game's accessible building mechanics, engaging survival progression, and exploration of a vast galaxy with impressive features like traversable Halo rings, comparing it favorably to Space Engineers but less complex. Common complaints center on the lack of functional multiplayer, occasional bugs with block placement and teleportation, and concerns that the gameplay loop becomes repetitive after the initial hours, though some remain hopeful for future improvements.
Not Recommended — Incredible Building System Buried Under Tedious, Poorly Explained Mechanics I really wanted to like Starship EVO. In fact, there is one part of this game that I think is absolutely fantastic: the actual structural building system. The freedom you have when designing a ship is incredible. Blocks can be resized and shaped in ways that make something like Space Engineers feel extremely restrictive by comparison. You can make slopes, curves, custom cockpits, moving components, retractable mechanisms, and structures that actually look the way you imagined them instead of constantly fighting against a rigid block grid. and NO clang!! If this review were based purely on the ability to shape and design a ship, I would recommend the game without hesitation. Unfortunately, almost everything surrounding that building system has been an exercise in frustration. The biggest problem is that everything is unnecessarily tedious. Things that should be basic functions require logic systems, Event Gates, Sequencers, switches, links, and experimentation just to accomplish something simple. I wanted a keyboard hotkey for my landing gear. Instead of simply assigning the landing ge…14 found this helpful
The more you invest, the worse this game gets. Buggy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mess. Give it a skip and play Empyrion instead. Does everything this does except the logic stuff, and SO much better. ===== Dev reply response, since his profile is private and Im not publishing a discussion thread on this. Why 100+ hours? I wanted to build a carrier to get off the starter world. Your resource economy is so stingy that about 90 of those hours were just ore gathering. That's not gameplay, that's a part-time job. As for the bugs... lets list them all shall we? 1. Constantly needing F5 since collision is ass, 1/3 times I leave a seat in a small cockpit I am stuck in the seat or in the hull. F5 is a core gameplay mechanic. 2. Cannot exit out of a camera view once you click on associated monitor, you have to leave the cockpit to leave the view, but you cant because... 3. Leaving a seat with thrusters active and reactor active still drops you out of the sky like a rock 4. Refueling is a dangerous crap shoot at the best of times. I have had all my Hydrogen disappear when connecting a large tank, restarting didn't help, tracing thru all the tanks that were connected showed it should work, finally having to gi…5 found this helpful
I really want to like this game, but the game plays in pretty much the most unappealing way possible.2 found this helpful
The game lacks polish and has glitches, but it is in early access, and it is just one independent developer working on his own. The building system is not perfectly intuitive, and takes some getting used to, but it is comprehensive and flexible and lets you design almost anything you can imagine. I've put more hours into it that I have in No Man's Sky, so maybe that says something. The foundations of a great game are already there, and it has massive potential. So far I'm just having fun building and experimenting, and looking at other people's designs in the workshop. Some people might think some aspects of the game are a bit too needlessly complex, like having to make logic circuits for automation, but I think that's a cool thing to learn along the way. I'm looking forward to seeing this game progress.1 found this helpful
Its quite good, if you want to make really massive builds there are bugs which can make it frustrating, but its really like no other space building game out there.
man space ship game = fun :)
