✦ AI summary

Baldr Sky is praised by players for its exceptional final route, compelling story that constantly recontextualizes earlier events, engaging combat, impressive soundtrack, and strong presentation that makes the overall experience feel fresh and rewarding. However, players consistently complain about significant technical issues on modern PCs with frequent crashes, bloated route structure that stretches playtime without adding character depth, and pacing problems that waste player time despite the strong core foundation.

I had heard a lot about this visual novel before starting it and so I was given steep expectations about it. Honestly it's pretty good throughout, but you never really understand all the immense praise it gets until you get to the final route. The combat is fun, but it does get tiring at some points and that massive flashback route might seem skippable at some parts but trust me DO NOT SKIP. If you can handle the things that try to make this VN a 10 instead of an 11 I highly recommend it. It's ever evolving plot and the ability to show you a new side to things you thought you understood was absolutely brilliant. The ost is amazing and the h scenes were well done if that's your cup of tea. It even includes some non canon extra h scenes so if your favorite gal is a side character worry not. Lots of things to unlock and plenty of customization. I loved the chibis and the menu wallpapers. This game has a lot of heart and care into it along with one of the most beautiful endings I have ever read. I still tear up thinking about it, even now. It is quite the time commitment, but as long as you don't get walled by the flashback arc you can make it through it just fine. I've heard that this…

Baldr Sky is a weird one to talk about. It's something I don't exactly regret playing/reading but do regret the amount of time I invested in it. It's strengths are its great presentation and utterly fertile foundation/setting that will get you hooked for the romp that is to come. It's weaknesses are that it half asses its presentation when it really matters and wastes your time whenever possible. I was going to give an overly detailed breakdown of my issues but I think I will just list them out (in no particular order of importance): * Too many routes for no reason. * Routes not long enough to make me give a damn about the characters (this is not strictly a time issue thing, but more a "characters written as a function rather than a person" thing). * Routed characters come off as redundant; should have combined them (reducing overall character count) and given us higher quality routes. * Chapter/System structure encourages rereading the same content over and over for no reason. * Despite the game having great presentation overall, it half asses it in certain very important parts (the whole motivation for the main character came off as a joke to me when the VN finally showed what …

Great visual novel and action game. Ahead of its time. Interesting RPG-like progression.

Brilliant game but extremely unplayable on modern PCs; I counted 17 crashes in the space of 4 hours of playing, requiring me to constantly fiddle with settings to make it run properly. I would recommend this game but I can't with how badly it runs. A real shame.
