About UnderDungeon

UnderDungeon is a peculiar adventure based on the classic dungeon crawlers.
Our protagonist, Kimuto, will have to face the harsh world of work on his first day on the job.

With the enigmatic appearance of the monsters, the lives of the residents of Kutopia have radically changed.
The famous "Heroes" have emerged who try to hunt down these creatures, some have created communities to try to resist them, and others try to survive as best they can.

Be careful, doing your job will not be easy.

  • Let your imagination fly with very careful 1bit graphics.
  • Memorable and emotional soundtrack.
  • Meet charismatic characters, discover surprise mechanics and explore the strange world of Kutopia.
  • Many secrets to discover.
  • A great story.

This game was such a treat to finish, loved playing it on my Deck.

The game is an interesting mix of Zelda/Isaac style dungeons with plenty of weird moments+characters in the vein of Undertale/Turnip Man comits tax fraud. After each dungeon/area you are returned to a small main hub. On paper, it sounds like it could be interesting, and for some I'm sure it will be, but it wasn't doing much to appeal to me. The resolution is pretty borked, with no in-game option to fix it. The text is soo big that it is almost dizzying for me to read any of it, making all text that appears an unpleasant annoyance. The Zelda-like aspects are pretty self-contained within each dungeon. The best thing about Zelda-likes for me are the large overworlds that you constantly backtrack through as you find more tools.. Outside of these dungeons, this game doesn't have that. I'd almost give this game a sideways thumb, but because of the QoL problems I'm leaning more negative (and dropping it).

Really good Zelda-like action adventuring, with nice dialogue and loads of variety.

UnderDungeon has great graphics, weapon concepts, minigames, and music. The story is a little silly, and sometimes it was hard to follow the dialogue (maybe because of translation issues?). I found difficulty with progressing sometimes, either because of something that I missed (black and white graphics can make it hard for things to stand out) or because I had a hard time with the combat. I'm not entirely sure that I want to fault this game for those things, because it honestly made me feel like I was playing an old-school 2D adventure game. I still recommend it, with the note that progression may get frustrating, and it's probably fine to keep a guide up just in case.

I want to like it, and I mostly do (specially the funny dialog and quirky characters) but there are some BIG problems in the game that makes it not enjoyable in the end. Like straight up badly designed: -Some parts of the game feels like they weren't playtested more than once, or by anyone other than the dev: there is a room with a randomly spawning damaging disco floor that looks like it's IMPOSSIBLE to complete without taking damage. One of the bosses has a gauntlet against multiple rooms of enemies before the actual fight that you to have to repeat if you die second phase, but again, impossible to not get hit. Also, you don't get back your used items if you die, making each try actually harder than the last one, so you have to hoard everything you found for the entire game just to have a chance of completing this. Incredibly frustrating. -Trap holes SUCK YOU IN. The character appears to perfectly be capable of walking near it but you fall anyway. -Some of the puzzle solutions are very obtuse, make no sense, or you have to straight up guess randomly to solve? -You can farm money to buy items and get a ridiculous amount in later levels but can only buy 3 per level? I ended up …
