Drizzlepath: Deja Vu

The fragility and circles of memory as well as the paradoxical beauty and strength of the mind. I don't know if it was intentional but the middle path spoken about in the second game felt ever present.

I LOVE this creator's walking sims. So atmospheric, beautiful music. Of course it won't be for you if you don't like a walking sim. There isn't any fighting or shooting, not even collecting. This is an opportunity to wander through TB's imagined world. If you want a gentle escape this is the one to indulge in.

So much so that the only controls are for movement and to control the camera. This might still feel a bit like a game if there was any choice in where to go or what to look at, but no. The environments, while they appear to be wide open nature vistas, really consist of an extremely linear, moderately disguised corridor. Occasionally there is a moment of misdirection where it seems like the corridor might go to the left, but really it turns out it goes to the right, or vice versa. There are roughly two levels. One wooded and rocky, threading thru some mountains. And then another through a snowdrift filled canyon. Both demonstrate the technical powers of the Unreal Engine V4(?), and look good. I do not think that they were generated purely at random, however there is that sense of sameness that comes from using tools to populate scenes with random geometry and objects. I consider myself to have a very high tolerance for narrative adventure games (walking simulators). This game was recommended to me as a great example of one of those, and I regret to say that I think this helped me realize the limits of that tolerance. To me, the best Walking Simulators out there are games that place you in an environment that you want to explore as you witness a story unfold with characters that you care about. Initially, I wondered if my distaste for this game was coming from the fact that the environments are so big and spread out when so many of my favorite walking simulators take place is more limited, claustrophobic settings. After finishing this game, though, I realized that this is simply not the case.
