Dead Monarchy

This is the "we have Battle Brothers at home" game. I'm tired of the "solo dev" excuse being used whenever a substandard game is being released. Also, "the game is hardcore/sandbox and won't hold your hand" is a disclaimer which basically means "there's no tutorial to walk you through the very user-unfriendly interface or explain how to interact with the game's basic systems". Speaking of the systems - I couldn't really interact with most of them. From the start you have a "quest" which tells you to go into the nearby city and kill a dude, but it mentions that you will need to get stronger before that - by recruiting new people and fulfilling contracts. Yet the only thing that I was able to access in the city was the market - for some reason all the other "buildings" didn't have any available options like recruitment.

There is potential here but it needs longer in the oven. Main issue is that it is much to repetitive with almost no variability.

awesome game, a strong recommend. if you like wartales and battle brothers then you will love this game! the character customisation is incredible and the head pops are hilarious. this game is criminally underrated and deserves a lot more attention from the steam community. the game is cheap as chips too

This game deserves a more appealing thumbnail or title image! Playing it feels like Mount and Blade and Kenshi were both drinking a bit much at a party and 9 months later, SURPRISE! Kenshi's greatest strength is its ability to allow the player to play through bad situations and have them become part of the player's story in an emergent and organic way. Sadly, this game DOESN'T match Kenshi in THAT category. However, this game DID get me caring about my people, assigning "personalities" to them and thinking about "well, what would that character choose" instead of just min/maxing them for battle. You start of with 1 or a few dudes and get them gear and experience as you gradually grow your mercenary company to 18 people. You can build reputation with the fief or "Haven" area you're in and better people (more suitable backgrounds and level up bonuses) will become available. Despite that, after growing to 14...I couldn't just ditch my starters...not even the monk with stubby legs, frail bones, and a couple other bad traits that negatively impacted his RPG growth with zero good traits. As far as comparison to Kenshi, it's that "getting to know my crew and caring about them" …

Great game. I've had many hours of enjoyment. Great value. Got recommended this game by a friend, it would be great to be able to do co-op.
