Crimson Tactics: The Rise of The White Banner

UPD after 18 hours. I didn't read this message from developers before and now I get why this game can't work properly https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1480810/view/4330858863426814098 This game won't be ended, won't be fixed (there are a lot of different bugs, starting from bad mechanics ending just freezing the game in the middle of the fight), so finally I really not happy of wasting time further. Though the game really had great potential on my point of view, it was good try to make FFT inspired game. This game looked like a very high potential game, FFT inspired, a lot of classes, ideas, skills, passive skills. UPD after developers answer. Game needs some improvements, QOL (like if you hold the button, choose not one item, aim should be reworked as now it works badly, a bit earlier start of all functions, game features as for several hours you can't do anything except story line). Graphic style is good, classes looks good, variety of skills looks interesting on the first view. If developers won't drop it - it can be very good FFT inspired game.

This is an incomplete copycat of" Arbiter: The fel seal(don't remember the exact grammar, but with that you will 100% find it) The original is indeed complete, is a nice story, doesn't force characters down your throat, doesn't make weird mixes ( japanese warriors in an medieval setting...) I mean if you don't have anything but, is a way to pass the time, but what a letdown that the story is not finished. the combat pace is honestly one of the best in the genre (the fel seal is overwelhemly superior) but its very similar. The mechanics of limited rounds to resurrect your units is great, as well as the undead returning if you don't use holy water, those 2 features were awesome tbh, and are originals of Crimson Tactics (not in the fel seal) the mechanic of having up to 3 deaths to permadeath a unit, without some mechanism to recover loyalty, is too punishing. This is also an original feature. Pretty much the rest, copycat of Arbiter:the fel seal. nd I mean EVERYTHING. The classes system , the whole UI, The progression system , the core of the combat pace, the terrains..It seems more like a mod inspired by the fel seal. Crimson Tactics: Rise of the White Banner is a strong tactical RPG with a surprisingly engaging story and solid, satisfying gameplay. The game does a good job of building a world full of political tension, war, loyalty, and difficult choices, giving the campaign more weight than a simple battle-to-battle strategy game. The story is one of its best parts. It has the feel of a classic strategy RPG, with noble houses, military conflict, personal ambition, and characters caught in the middle of larger events. The writing gives the campaign a sense of purpose, and it makes you want to keep pushing forward to see how the conflict develops. The gameplay is also very solid. Battles reward careful positioning, smart use of classes, and thinking ahead rather than just rushing forward. Unit roles feel meaningful, and there is enough customization to make building your army enjoyable. It captures the fun of older tactical RPGs while still offering its own identity.

I saw the devs were trying to redeem this game, and I fully support them in that. I didn't know this game existed until a few days ago, after the game had since received some updates after being abandoned in 2024ish. I wouldn't say that I'd rate this game as negative and I'll forever hate that Steam doesn't allow for neutral reviews. I don't want to post this as a negative because the devs are trying to improve it, and each negative review they get will both demoralize them and also influence other potential buyers - neither of which are my intention. But to be most honest, I'd rate it more negative than positive, so I'll leave a Negative review for now. I need to mention that I'm very early in, only the first few fights, so my opinions could likely change if I were to progress. Unfortunately, at the moment, I don't think it's worth it for me to spend the time doing so in the hopes that I may find the game more enjoyable the deeper I get in. IDK what is up with this game, pretty early on it goes from a normal balanced fight to taking 2 hits to kill my people and nearly 5x that for me to kill theirs. I changed difficulty and turned off the auto difficulty thing, but its back to the same. Im the same level as the enemy, i got the best gear available, and im doing 30ish points damage and they are doing 70+. right before that the game kinda broke and i had to go back a few hours to get back to where i was, but seems to be lacking balance and unplayable for me. Otherwise, seems like a good mix of tactics orge and FF tactics.

Growing up with tactics ogre KOL, and final fantasy tactics A1 and A2, it's great to see a game that's clearly made by fans of these games.
