This ugly buggy mess of a rip-off actually has "mostly positive" review rating? Well, I don't have that high opinion of humanity overall, but this is a new low.

Ninja Noboken tries to be a modern remake or a spiritual successor to the classic NES Ninja Gaiden, but it ends up being disappointing, especially for fans of the original game. I played it at launch, but I stopped because of many bugs, crashes, and technical problems. I waited for updates hoping the issues would be fixed. However, even after about three years, the game still has the same problems. The physics are very bad, making movement, jumps, and combat feel awkward. Bugs still happen randomly during gameplay, and the game can freeze or crash without reason. These problems have been reported by many other players since release. The game also feels unpolished, with questionable checkpoints and gameplay that is far from smooth. There was an update later on that added small fixes, some visual changes, and audio improvements, but it did not fix the main issues. The soundtrack is good and fits the ninja theme, which is one of the few positive points. On the other hand, lighting in some stages makes the game harder to play, because it is difficult to see enemies and obstacles. In the end, Ninja Noboken has good ideas and clear inspiration from Ninja Gaiden, but the execution is…

The controls for this game are worse than the NES version. Level 4 is basically impossible with the way the enemies are positioned because you are highly likely to get hit and fall down to the swamp. Gotta have that fixed

Could be better, adding the extra stuff like the delayed camera scrolling, the drag in resetting after slicing with your sword plus the inability to slice with a wider degree of coverage as you're landing so that you can dispatch enemies don't seem like it's there at all. I get it, it's a "parody" of sorts. Kudos for the effort though and worth trying just to compare the difference.
