Life of Slime

"Life of Slime" is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. This one is slightly narrative driven, so I guess the Russian "developers" didn't just directly copy + paste an existing Unity template, but it's hardly much better. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals. The controls and game handling are notably very floaty and imprecise. First I thought it was a game about asexuality. Then I thought it was a game about capitalism. Then I thought it was a game about Covid. Then I thought it was a game about Resident Evil 4. Now, I don't know if it was any of that or if it was anything at all. Tunes were banging though

An interesting experience that ends very weirdly but otherwise good! 9/10
