🔹 EXPECTATIONS: a casual puzzle game with roguelike mechanics and a single player campaign. 🔹 REALITY: a casual turn-based strategy game with focus on its time trial mode.* 🔶 Axe ghost is a casual game where a shuffled horde of enemies march towards the bottom of the screen in a turn-based manner, and if they reach it, it's game over. The tools of the player are 3 cards per turn with two actions each, of which only 1 can be used from each pair. These actions serve to shove and group those enemies by type, as once the axe is thrown at one, all same-type enemies next to it will die along. The bigger the group the better, and the higher the score, too. 🔸 The game has one game mode, but it can be played in two ways. Axe ghost's main focus is in its competitive, time trial mode, where a countdown starts at the beginning of the run and, once finished, uploads your score to the online daily leaderboard. The second way of playing is by ignoring the timer completely, and focusing on making the right choices every turn, without rushing, carefully considering all options and aiming for the absolute best outcome. I've for a while been looking for a very tactical puzzle game that is a really solid challenge to play. I'm not the greatest at puzzles, but this is definitely hitting this itch. The music, art, sound effects and particles are really nice and overall, I really dig the visual style. It's very unique and offer a lot of solutions to the puzzles. I find it's a very satisfying challenge and doing routs! really is something else, when you pull off a complete boss powermove!

Amazing tactical puzzler.

Since the levels are procedurally generated, no run felt the same. It felt fresh, and as you progress and get better, you unlock more items that will show up to use on the cards. Items you select can then get highlighted with stars to discover hidden objects that can increase the multiplier and your points. This became addicting immediately, and a 20-minute session easily turned into 2 hours.

This is quite a nice puzzle-combat game. You have to clear enemies by grouping them as much as possible together to score more points or even earn a coin which lets you do a set of extra actions before the enemies move down a row. After a while, the boss comes out. He needs a couple of hits to take him down. You can move, swap, alter and destroy enemies by choosing one action on three given cards each per round. You always see the next set of cards. At a certain time, discarding cards starts quests. There are three in which you have to take a highlighted action. If you complete all those, you gain a score multiplier. The moment you chose another action, the quest is lost and you have to discard another card to activate the quest again. After a couple of tutorial steps, you can participate in daily runs which always have a random set of two extra cards available during battle. Certain combinations are definitely harder than others. It can be quite tricky to choose your next moves, or even the sequence of them. Do you go for the multiplier or that bigger group or don't you want to risk getting bad cards later and die?
