✦ AI summary

Players praise Spooky Pixel Hero as a charming and challenging platformer with atmospheric retro aesthetics and engaging mechanics like the glitch-deletion segments, calling it a solid offering from AppSir at its budget price. However, the PC port suffers from notable technical issues, most commonly the spacebar input stopping after deaths and requiring a level restart, plus lack of fullscreen or resolution options despite being a mobile port, which frustrates players even if the fixes are quick.

(I already finished this game on my phone, hence the short playtime here) Personally, I was extremely excited for Spooky Pixel Hero's (further on SPH) release ever since it was announced. And when I first played it, I was immediately hooked on it. The graphics are very simple, though I believe it adds to the atmosphere of the game (and the fact it's said to be from 1976). I think, that the platforming is slightly harder than other games from the Appsir franchise, though I haven't found it to be a problem so big it would drive me away. I also really enjoyed the "swipe to delete glitches" part, they were pretty refreshing throughout the game and a nice short break from the platforming. I wish there would've been more of those, but once again, no big issue. Last thing I'd love to highlight is the lack of music throughout the platformer levels. Sure, you may be thinking, "how can a lack of music be any good?", but in SPH's case, it worked wonders. After all, the greatest horror is individual; it's what the mind comes up with by itself. The lack of music adds to the tension, which leads your brain to anticipate the next jumpscare, or something that could go wrong, which leaves you perf…

(I've been playing on my phone, but I also got this on Steam). Another fun little gem from AppSir. Challenging platforming, intriguing storytelling, & excellent use of old video game styles. All hallmarks I've come to love from this developer.

As always, the game sports some fantastic platforming with bits of horror tastefully added throughout the game. The game is super short but for $3, it feels about right. Unfortunately, this one has the most jank out of all of the AppSir games that I played... to elaborate, the spacebar (jump) would sometimes stop registering after death and I would have to go to the home menu and back into the level to get it working again. This happened at least 10 times in my playthrough and although it was easy/quick to fix, it got on my nerves a lot. This game also doesn't have any sort of full screen mode at all. I know that it is a mobile game originally (that is where I got it first), but it seems a little lazy to not include some kind of resolution options. Also, be forewarned that you will need to download a 3rd party (free) audio program to get any sound to work. The game actually forces you to use a code that is only audible when you get download and install the program. I still recommend the game at the price point since it is really unique and I really dig this developer, but I would strongly suggest trying their other stuff first if you haven't already.
