A few gripes to get out of the way first: the audio runs hot, so turn that down before you start, and the graphics aren’t optimized well. Clicking the “Optimal” preset is anything but, it tanked my frames, and dialing everything back down manually takes actual time to sort out. That’s the last of my complaints though. Once you’re past that, this game handles the P.T. formula really well and leans hard on sound design to do the heavy lifting for atmosphere, and it works. The puzzles are genuinely tricky and well designed, you need a sharp eye and a sharp ear to get through them, and if you don’t have both, you’ll get lost in the sauce fast. The jumpscares mostly land with good timing, though a couple felt cheap. My one real issue hit near the end, approaching your wife on the cliff, there’s a nasty graphics bug where looking straight ahead makes the screen flash white and completely wrecks the cutscene, but looking up at the sky or down at the ground avoids it entirely. Paranormal Torment is not a game that will blow you away with the originality of its story. The plot is actually quite simple and somewhat familiar, but at the same time believable enough to work. Family tragedy, guilt, loss and a man who clearly wasn´t able to deal with any of it. Where the game really succeeds is the atmosphere. It´s genuinely scary. Not only because of the jumpscares, but because of the constant feeling of unease and the fact that you are never completely sure what is waiting around the next corner. Some of the puzzles felt unclear to me at first, but once you understand the logic behind them, they are actually quite reasonable. One particular puzzle involving doors is solved by listening carefully to which direction the knocking comes from. The game recommends using headphones at the beginning - listen to that advice. It is not just for the atmosphere :) To make progress you have to observe, listen, connect the clues. And when you finally understand a puzzle, the reaction is often: "Well, that makes perfect sense" :) There are two endings, which is a nice touch, but after getting one of them the game did not allow me to simply return to the final decision…

The game clearly shows it uses Unreal Engine. It's horribly optimized. On top of that, most of the visual elements are AI-generated too. 🪟

I am almost certain that this game uses generative AI. It is no where close to the original P.T. game and was a great disappointment. The jump scares were mediocre and the graphics weren't very good. This game isn't worth your money if you're looking for a good horror game, especially something similar to the original P.T.
