What Steam players say

PO'ed: Definitive Edition is a faithful remaster of a notoriously awkward early 3D shooter that preserves the original's janky controls and odd level design while updating it for modern systems, which players appreciate as preservation work but find largely unplayable and unenjoyable by contemporary standards. Most reviewers criticize the poor character movement, clunky controls, and weak design, though some acknowledge Nightdive's technical effort and appeal to nostalgic or curious players willing to tolerate its dated nature.
This game made me sick to play and the controls suck balls still appreciate Nightdive efforts to preserve old video games however.8 found this helpful
This game sucks. A lot. It looks and plays terribly. This is a perfect remaster that successfully modernizes it to still look and play terribly on modern hardware. Recommend, I guess?2 found this helpful
Even though I expected disappointment, I was still disappointed. This game is FAILED. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. POTENTIAL. Even the remaster can't fix this stinker of a game. I love the graphics, the ideas this game has, but it ♥♥♥♥♥ everything up. The level design is either cramped or open but spammed with copy/paste enemies, very rarely spawning you in without a monster sucking your ♥♥♥♥ in the first second. The enemies are programmed to lead their shots, which is a good mechanic on paper, until you give it to the flying enemies that fly at mach speed, are nigh impossible to hit even with the Uzi and flamethrower some of them drop ammo for, and are spawned in droves. The remaster adds a save system among other fixes, cool, except some levels where enemies are spammed to hell and back it crashes the game. In fact the new features feel like a band-aid rather than an actual fix to the game's core problems. According to the product info, this game is "inspired" by doom, and quake which came out a year after. The only similarity this POS game has is that it's a first person shooter. This game is like watching your child go from straight A's in college, to becoming a meth addicted heroin addict. I r…1 found this helpful
I just wanted to say that most of the reviews that gave this a negative based on all the key notes of level design, character movement, etc. are honestly the folks that never played the original release on the 3DO or Playstation where all those particular pieces were astoundingly worse. What Nightdive did here was incredible updating the game ever so slightly to be used in the modern era while keeping most of the super jank of the original release. This was a game I really wanted to play again for a long long time, just on how weird and wacky it was and I mentioned them on twitter a month before release "hey Nightdive, know what would be funny? Remastering PO'ed" cause I knew no one would ever touch this game or pick it up out of curosity. But low and behold they proved me wrong and dropped this on April Fool's day. So now I can relive the childhood game and finally beat the damn thing. This game is definitely not for everyone, it's controls are utter garbage and floaty as hell, the levels are a visual nightmare and the difficulty spike ramps up way too quickly. BUT this is for the crowd that has played it before long ago, the IYKYK crowd. Very solid remaster considering the …1 found this helpful
I don't know why some reviewers here are calling this "mediocre" or even "above average". This is a worthless waste of time, which is exactly what I expected, so I can't say I was disappointed. Only buy this if you know what you're getting yourself into. This is a game from the time before the conventions for how a game should be were established, so one could charitably claim the devs were trying to make something different from the other FPS of that time. But in practice the levels feel like they are made by a 12 year old, and the wacky elements are far too weak to be charming. As a general rule, 90s FPS are vivid and full of character. PO'ed is undercooked and weak. This means it commits one of the worst crimes for any work of art, it's forgettable! Think of any game from the 90s you can imagine, and it's better than PO'ed. Does this game have any redeeming qualities that makes it worth your time? No.1 found this helpful
I played this for about an hour with my friends, and got instant food poisoning and threw up. Over all, had a fun time. Definitely recommend
