✦ AI summary

Age of Reforging: The Freelands has solid bones as a sandbox RPG with compelling community-building mechanics that appeal to players seeking deep, replayable experiences, but it suffers from significant issues including a tediously slow early game, repetitive loot with poor drop rates, numerous bugs and polish problems, and frustrating design limitations like only being able to attack enemies already in combat.

Really cool Idea with things I really like. Early game is ridiculously slow. You have to work in town for hours to level up and get money to buy another companion. You also can only attack enemies that are fighting another group. You do all this for ALOT of hours and you are still weak. This game feels like an early access game that was abandoned.

game has potential but literally consists of bugs

Weaknesses & Main Issues: Extremely Boring Loot System: One of the most frustrating issues in this game is the loot distribution (drop rate). The time spent exploring areas simply isn't worth the rewards you get. Lack of Item Variety: When exploring towns or settlements, players repeatedly find the exact same armor over and over again. This completely ruins the excitement of looting. Ruined Exploration Experience: Because the items found are so scarce and lack variety, the motivation to explore the map diminishes significantly over time. Balancing Issues: The developers need to overhaul the loot table system so that dropped items are more varied and match the difficulty level of the area.

The bones of a *great* rpg game are here, but there are so many bugs and jank its a very qualified recommend. If your tolerance for issues is low, please avoid. If you are willing to put up with jank and minor bugs, hoping that things will get polished and fixed eventually then sure I'd say go for it. I'll give it a thumbs up but if you are considering buying the game in the sale, go into it with your eyes open. Edit : I think I was being a bit harsh about the bugs, reloading sorts them almost all of the time. The game is definitely getting much more enjoyable the more I'm playing it.

This is the TYPE of game I'm constantly looking for. I like sandbox rpgs I can sink hundreds of hours and multiple plays into. This gives me a little bit of the party/community building I crave. (You can start a caravan and drive around looking for stuff to loot and fight) I've put 80 hours in over the last 4-5 days. The *BAD* part about that, and it's not entirely the game's fault, is that I keep learning I screwed up something in beginning character creation- and having learned the error I start over. (like that time I made the perfect character, but forgot to change his voice and now he's annoying) I feel they could add some moderate character editing stuff to remedy that, and it still remain mostly "hardcore." There are a lot of language localization/translation issues, but it's tolerable unless you're REALLY picky (I'm mostly picky, but I get over it), and there are still a lot of bugs. The language errors might never get fixed, but they're still pretty active putting out updates and bug fixes- so don't let that stuff bother you. It's not a PERFECT game, but for guys like me it's a very GOOD game. Worthwhile for sure, especially if you get it on sale.
