About Ravager

\

ABOUT\

Ravager is a 2D open world platformer that is inspired by Norse Mythology. It takes you and your 12 characters across the land to free its people of the threat of the trolls. The vast open world will test your skills against its various bosses. Upgrade and Character Stones are secretly scattered around the land to collect while exploring the beautiful world. However, this world won’t stay this way forever if you cannot stop Morrigan from releasing the Nidhoggr, Devourer of Worlds.

\

FEATURES\

Twelve Unique Playable Heroes with many upgrades

Open World to explore and travel

Norse Mythology has inspired the story and setting of the game

Seven challenging Bosses to overcome and conquer

\

OPEN WORLD \

Being a side-scroller and open world is a very different concept than what most people are used to, but there are a vast amount of places to travel, each with safe zones, constant upgrade abilities and various characters. Each character has many different abilities that offer different tactical approaches and secrets that make them more effective in certain levels and situations. The game emphasizes a lot on experimentation with the world to find the upgrade stones, slay the enemies and obliterate the bosses.

This game is difficult. This game is punishing. But it is also rewarding. It is meant to embolden your drive to explore, horde and collect in the massive open world. Will you discover all of its secrets?

Unfortunately Ravager is a very overpriced platformer when you consider all of its problems. The store description suggests a "2D Open World Platformer" which is just objectively not true; I would consider it a very linear game with limited exploration if any. First of all, the game takes around 3 minute to load and you might run into other starting issues. There are no settings of any kind, not even a limited support for controller. The gameplay mechanics are not polished, it is not uncommon to run into glitches or even optimization issues. I was very much decived by a realtively pretty trailer, only to find a shallow game with repetitive gameplay and mediocre visuals. The only interesting part about Ravager is the ability to pick between several characters. Each has a unique auto-attack and 3 special abilities. You will have to find the obelisks to unlock 1 ability at a time, it is kind of fun to see what each character can do. I find that you can pretty much skip most of enemies because there is no reason to kill anything. The game does not do a good job of motivating you to switch characters, so far I used the same 2 guys just fine. To be honest there is nothing abo…

https://youtu.be/zfJJfaK4Ynw The side scrolling action loses much of it's prowess due to a very floating air controls. Combat balance swings from overly simple common enemies to spongy bosses with instant kill attacks.

Ravager is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro pixel platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. This one looks like the product of filling out a GameMaker Studio platformer template from the Yoyogames store with some of the most atrociously bad pixelcrap assets I've seen, to make some kind of nordic platformer/brawler garbage. Nobody liked it or played it (see below for the player counts) for some pretty obvious reasons. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. The controls and game handling are notably very clunky and unsmooth here. I…

Has potential, but really is just plain bad... almost seemed like 10 minute loading time. Finally got it loaded up and no controller support, most of the time the player is facing the wrong direction or a button gets stuck and you wander backwards towards enemies. The combat was weird... the hammer spin lifts you off the ground and just feels weird. I tried a few of the upgrades, but the tornado's "cast time" was ridiculous. I didn't feel like even finishing the first area with how the game felt. The aesthetic was kinda nice and I'm sure that some will be willing to deal with all the issues to play the underlying game but I find it too broken and tedious to bother with.

I get why this game doesn't have great reviews. It is short, buggy at times (especially the loading screen), and pretty short. But it has stunning pixel-style graphics, and its little world is really well put together, with interesting lore hints here and there. The 12 different characters are different enough that you'll feel like switching from your favorite to another to deal ith certain enemies or a boss. All in all, I enjoyed the ride.
