The Joust

I can recommend [b][i]The Joust[/i][/b] as a tech demo, tech exploration, and mechanics exploration, but not as a (traditionally interpreted) game you play in particular. I can't speak for multiplayer in practice, which I have not played. + Extensive, elaborate tech of body part hit boxes, armor, weapon types, weight, abilities + Extensive configuration of gameplay modes, characters, enemies + A diverse set of gameplay modes * Elaborate tutorial with cool skip back and forward as far as you progressed, but ultimately too much at once, too little time on each gameplay mechanics element; I still didn't get parrying and riposte anyway, and then it didn't progress for me anymore, so I couldn't find out about the rest of the gameplay mechanics * Reach distance seems to trump everything, although I don't know if I just don't understand some game mechanics * Huge variance in weapons and abilities makes for diverse matchups but also mismatched or confusing matchups * I can't speak for multiplayer; only played solo/single/local * Three camera modes: wide (not very useful), third person (hard to target your swings), first person (hard to see where your hands and weapon went) - Overloaded wi…

I think it takes a specific type of person to really like this game... And that person happens to be me During the first like 20 minutes of 'onboarding' I guess you could call it I honestly got a little frustrated with this game and thought I would drop it. Then I gave it a better chance because it's only 1 US Money and played for 2.4 hours. A lot of things felt clunky at first. I didn't like the way your third person camera whipped around while trying to swing and the first person camera felt too low FOV + my own arms/FX blocked my view (maybe that second ones just because I play FPS games on 100 deg). At first my weapons also just kind of ended up in the general direction I meant to swing Then over like 30 minutes I really learned to work with it and the game managed to go from "frustrating and jank" to "a little unintuitive but fun and surprisingly rewarding... maybe still a bit of jank but I'll allow it." When you hit an arm sever and make your opponent drop their weapon -> drop them to the ground -> crouch over them -> say some sort of monologue they can't hear because you're playing singleplayer and they're an AI -> hit them in the head for the KO, it feels satisfying like y…

I'd say this game is very fun in a quirky way, but i feel like it can be improved at the same time. One featrue that i would like is perhaps vehicles like maybe tanks or SUVS maybe even planes (i don't know how you could balence it but if you could that would be a cool mechanic being similar to animals in a way just as a idea

I bought it cause it looked neat and then I opened it up and while at first I was pretty overwhelmed, after getting into a game, I was absolutely awed by the complexity in it. Its only a dollar, totally worth getting even if its just to see if its your kind of game.

Devs reached out and are working on improving these complaints, keeping this (previously) negative review here for clarity's sake Honestly, I wouldn't even say it's worth a dollar. Mechanics are poorly implemented, the tracking for your weapon is terrible, the tutorial breaks every so often (restart game or match to fix, depending on severity of break, and multiplayer is completely broken. Your sword is stuck where it spawns, and the opponents often either die on contact with their own weapons (or yours), you can't move, and there is no fix.
