About The Cave Diver

✦ AI summary

The Cave Diver is a claustrophobic crawling adventure where you navigate through impossible cave systems, marking your path with crude signs as you die and return again and again to map the depths. Master precise two-handed movement through physics puzzles while uncovering the dark secrets of why every diver before you has vanished into the ancient darkness below.

The suffocating rocks of the caves are slowly closing in to claim another soul. Keep crawling... Eventually, a passageway has to open up...The Cave Diver

Crawl through claustrophobic tunnels and unforgiving detours.

Cave dive through a labyrinth of crushing stones and constricting passageways. Branching tunnels will lure you into claustrophobic dead-ends where turning back is physically impossible.

Map out the cave system through multiple attempts.

Hammer crude signs into the stone to track your descent into the caves. With every new body, the cave grows familiar. The marks of those who came before remain…

Don't get stuck.

The caves are no place for the living. Getting stuck means dying alone, entombed in rock. No one is coming to save you. When you return as a new cave diver, you might stumble upon your predecessor's decayed remains - if you can reach them.

Learn to move through physical puzzles.

Master the movement and grip of your two hands to carefully navigate obstacles and overcome physics puzzles. Every movement is perfected through failure. Only the obsessive, the patient, and the insane make it deeper.

Discover what horrors lie deep underground.

For generations your family has told stories of a rare flower that grows at the bottom of these caves. They say the flower can cure any ailment - even paraplegia of the legs . But every man who's entered the caves has failed to return... Some say the cave itself takes them... Others speak of something ancient that stirs below - an evil older than man himself...

✦ AI summary

The Cave Diver creates an effectively tense and immersive horror experience with compelling Lovecraftian storytelling that keeps players engaged despite mounting frustration. However, players frequently struggle with the punishing difficulty curve, awkward underwater controls that make vertical movement through tight spaces frustrating, and technical issues including crashes and window resizing problems. Most players find the core experience rewarding enough to push through the aggravations, though the difficulty spike may test patience considerably.

Honestly, I'm just really digging the story and experience. It's hard to tell what's going to happen or even if something does but the little papers and some of the things that happen do a really good job at building tension and make you feel like you need to hurry up big time. Doesn't really feel like a rage game I think the controls are solid and it feels satisfying to solve puzzles or go ways that you know the dev wasn't intending. This game reminds me a bit of "The Cave" with the areas and story somewhat. If you like exploration types of games with a simple but solid story, I'd highly recommend this. I hope the dev does more games like this in the future, the areas kept me interested and made gave me something to look forward to seeing. Edit: just beat the game! Hope the dev adds a dlc or something that makes the cave deeper and offers another ending really enjoyed this! Oh and! the mapping out feature is totally useless I didn't use it once, cool idea though!

Last third was just not fun and I just wanted the game to be over more than anything. Also I thought it would be scarier but it had no effect on me unfortunately.

Genuinely painful to play. The fact that the cursor keeps trying to pull back to your character means that you're swinging your mouse across your desk constantly, and I had it set to the highest sensitivity possible. Also the physics are terribly inconsistent. You're telling me I can throw a boulder over the back of my head like a ball of paper but I can't push one off of myself??? You'd also expect more upper body strength
from someone who is paralyzed from the waist down
but he's incapable of doing a basic push/pull up half of the time. What's the point of being able to control both arms if you can't even push/pull yourself with one??? It's not challenging, just unpredictable and frustrating, especially considering there's sections where timing is tight. As someone who's been spelunking before, this dude would be dead in a minute flat.
