About Submergent

STORY

As a crew member of an oceanography team, you find yourself in the Arctic Sea, facing a startling discovery: a vast underwater cave system lying approximately 1000 feet below sea level. Two exploration teams, Alpha and Beta, were dispatched to survey the caves, but they've now been missing for four days, far beyond the expected duration of their mission. You've been tasked with piloting the last remaining submarine, dubbed "The Tin Can" due to its rusted and deteriorating condition. Locate the missing exploration teams and ensure their safe return home.

FEATURES

  • A dingy submarine.
  • An underwater light.
  • Old mapping technology.
  • Some flares.
  • A short experience that is finished in less than an hour.

GAMEPLAY

Pilot your submarine through an underwater cave system using minimal resources.

Sunlight doesn't penetrate this deeply, so you'll need to rely on your submarine's lights to navigate the murky depths. Initial attempts to map the cave have proven unsuccessful, so you'll need to rely on the submarine's scanner. It's old tech and it's not the clearest, but it'll work. You're equipped with a limited set of flares to help mark your path, but use them sparingly, as once they're gone, you'll be left at the mercy of the deep.

Don't get lost.

Good game for the price. It was a bit of a challenge to get the hang of navigating at first but eventually it made sense and once I was moving around the map it definitely felt unsettling/scary. Overall this style of game has potential and I could see them doing more with it if they wanted. I recommend if you enjoy graphics with an unrefined, old school look as well.

The premise & concept I like a lot, the map took me a while to get my head around but ultimately it's the control scheme of the submarine that has me put this game down. I keep drifting & colliding into walls, I'm aware that I'm controlling a paper-thin vessel but it's mildly frustrating when I'm trying to navigate. Great atmosphere & sounds, just not the best controls in my opinion.

Submergent is an atmospheric underwater horror experience developed and published by 626 Interactive that transforms one of humanity’s oldest fears—the unknown depths of the ocean—into a tense and unsettling adventure. Rather than relying heavily on combat systems or traditional survival horror formulas, the game builds its identity around isolation, environmental storytelling, and psychological tension. It creates fear not through overwhelming action, but through uncertainty, vulnerability, and the uncomfortable feeling that something unseen may be waiting just beyond visibility. Players assume the role of a submarine operator assigned to investigate dangerous underwater caverns during a mission involving a missing crew. At first, the objective feels straightforward enough. Enter unfamiliar territory, locate those who disappeared, and uncover answers hidden beneath the surface. However, as exploration continues deeper into the ocean’s darkness, the atmosphere gradually shifts from curiosity into unease. The deeper the journey goes, the more oppressive the environment becomes. One of Submergent’s greatest strengths lies in its understanding of restraint. Horror games often depend…

great atmosphere and sound but navigation through the map can be quite tricky which is most likely by design as it makes sense. Wish i could play more but unfortunately this game makes me really motion sick or at least something similar to it.
