This is a game about being surrounded by beehives, given a pile of rocks, and being warned about the consequences of hitting the beehives with the rocks, and then daring you to do it anyway. Best modern interpretation of cyberpunk AND best modern roguelike.

If you're a fan of Bug Hunter (from UFO 50) or Caves of Qud, get this game. (Basically, turn- and grid-based strategy where a huge chunk of the fun is from exploration and discovering how everything works on your own.) I was hesitant to purchase this game at first, because the smiley face/art didn't appeal to me... but immediately upon playing a demo level and hearing the music, it was an instant buy. The soundtrack slaps. I love this game.

One of the most inspirering roguelikes out there. I keep discovering new depths to this game. There is definitely an initial difficulty bumb that you have to get over but once you do its incredibly rewarding. And the soundtrack kicks ass!

868-BACK takes the "puzzle" roguelike - 1-screen grid, tight movement and "thinky" combat - and blows it wide open. It can be fairly daunting at first, as all of its systems are interconnected and require you to understand them well. Once you do, however, this is one of the greats! The game is capable of constantly generating interesting decisions and there's so much to explore that even 120 hours in I feel like I've barely scratched the surface. That's not really why I think the game is a masterpiece, however. I think there are two elements of the game that really elevate it. The first is just how open it is. This is a sandbox that will shift around you and push back against your decisions. I've seen others describe it as "puzzley", but despite the assigned genre I disagree with that claim. While you'll regularly find yourself in tight or seemingly impossible spots, you usually have multiple solutions to a problem. And the amazing thing is that both the problems and solutions are, or at least feel, dynamic.
