A Vampyre Story

This is one of those games that I originally played on PC and really enjoyed. However the same can't be said for it on the steam deck. The game just not come with Native control mapping. So that has to all be done manually. Which is annoying but not that big a deal. Although once the controls are mapped they feel kind of cludgy and don't really work smoothly The load times on this game are ridiculously long and I'm not sure why that is. It is literally a point and click adventure game so the long load times don't really make sense. Like when loading a save file it takes between 60 to 90 seconds to load. Which feels really long. Other than that it's okay I guess. I haven't really played it for long enough to really have the full Vibe of the game. Put in maybe an hour or two on it.

A Vampire Story is a very hit-and-miss game. When it’s good, it’s really good. Out of my total playtime, I’d say I genuinely enjoyed about a quarter of it. When the jokes land, the humour is great, the graphics and presentation are really charming, and the overall vibe is genuinely appealing. But when the game misses, it really misses. None of the puzzles felt satisfying, and some of the design choices become frustrating over time. For example, one particularly annoying quirk is that you can’t carry certain items around with you. Instead, the game to remembers where they are for you, and when it’s time to use them, the main character automatically transports to retrieve the item and then returns to use it. It only adds a few seconds each time, but it feels like unnecessary padding. That frustration is made worse by the protagonist’s slow movement speed. Exploring environments and examining everything can quickly become a slog. My biggest issue, though, was the dialogue - a lot of it just doesn't land. [b] "What Happened to Your Voice?!" is a great homage to the reason the gaming industry exist - the great games of the 90's. Adventure games in this case. It even refers to specific games from that golden era when I used to have all my teeth... good times. But Mona's voice... so annoying. Playing this on the steam deck. It was a bit clunky at first but once you get the hang of it, it gets easier. The voice acting is great and the story is quite funny. It kinda reminds me of Discworld 1 & 2 (I miss those games soooo much) I highly recommend it.

Although dated still a nice game. Compelling story, great humor, nice graphics, voice acting and music, interesting characters. Gameplay can be a somewhat slow and puzzles can be a bit overly complicated, but stil enjoyable. Recommended and hoping for a sequel.

Bill Tiller released A Vampyre Story about ten years after LucasArts' The Curse of Monkey Island was the height of point 'n click adventure gaming, yet it shows many similarities to that classic. The backgrounds have this amazing, Don Bluth animated movie type of graphics style, and the user interface utilizes a variety of the verb coin. Having played for the first hour, this feels like a very slow-paced game, where you need patience to explore since there are quite a lot of hotspots to examine. You play as Mona De Lafitte, a former Parisian opera singer who fell under the spell of vampire Shrowdy von Kiefer. Shrowdy kidnaps Mona and takes her to live with him at Castle Warg in Draxilvania. One day, however, Shrowdy is killed by vampire hunters, and Mona is left alone to escape the castle and return to Paris, finally free of her vampire master's spell. Though alone she actually is not. Froderick the bat is her constant companion, good for most of the jokes in this game, the way Max was in Sam & Max Hit the Road. They kind of have the same accent as well, by the way.
