Not worth your time even for free.....

It's sad to see an indie dev with great vision falling short in the basics. At first, I was baffled that the game had more than mixed, the controls were weird, movement horribly implemented, the mouse isn't locked to the screen when you have dual/triple monitors, and interactions... it blows me away the dev released the game with nearly broken interactions when interactive objects are the core mechanic of the game. Puzzles spoilers ahead, [spoiler] Some puzzles were clearly done without enough testing, the first puzzle had no visual indication of being On/Off (just because I can move the switches left and right doesn't mean I'll know which direction is off and on), and you can't move away, the second puzzle was the lowest point in the game, and some hints were badly put in the writing, the machine where you write the answer is a buggy mess (imo I believe it's a good practice to keep the placement of the last chosen number after you press it instead of resetting the position to 1, cause it felt clunky), as for the remaining levels, the dev did step up their game, i just don't know why they didn't go back to the first 2 puzzles and redo them [/spoiler] story and music are what made…

I feel bad not recommending a game that's free that the dev clearly cared about, but even for 2017 this kinda sucks and i don't think it is worth your time. both then and now have examples of this for free done much better. the droning (in a bad way) basic repetitive sad sack piano tracks make the whole thing feel like z grade victorian poems, and its clearly trying to add weight and atmosphere to a game that has none of it. it's dark and hard to see anything, but not because of performance or imposed darkness, there's just nothing there but untextured brown walls. theres basic platforming in it because... well i dont know why. the first puzzle is an easy puzzle presented in the most confusing on purpose way possible that its impossible to take seriously in a game that, again, REALLY wants you to feel like you are in some dark surreal dour situation when it just feels like youre in Tron's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ house. there are no options to tweak mouse sensitivity, so its brutal to turn, and naturally your cursor goes off window all the time making you click out of the game if you have a two monitor setup. speaking of, the options for me anyway, were reversed, so i actually had to select le…

"About Elise" is a rather mediocre first person puzzle adventure with somewhat low poly "cel shaded" game assets and a few puzzles to solve. What do you do in the game? The idea is that you're a baker from San Antonio (home of the Alamo etc etc) and you need to wander around some complex and solve a few puzzles to rescue your daughter. Why not just call the police, hmm? Nope, that would make sense. In terms of visuals, this features fairly low quality low poly 3D visuals which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and while some developers struggle with creating high quality visuals, failing to do so is a disservice to gamers. It's very difficult to recommend bad looking games. On the matter of pricing and value for gamers, most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's often nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game.
