About Absent
Absent is a story which follows the character of young-adult and college student, Murray Schull. He and his two best friends, Eve and Steve, attend a college in which students are disappearing daily. It’s up to them to find out how this is happening, why this is happening, protect their other friends, and to put a stop to it once and for all.
This series of events began when Crystal, a three month girlfriend of Murray’s friend, Steve, disappeared on her way home from college via mysterious means. Over the course of the investigation, however, Murray realizes that the abduction of Steve’s girlfriend was not from anything of this earth. Murray is haunted by visions of the past and future, confronted with puzzles, with friends turning against each other, and all for one reason. The Reaper.
Special Features
-A point/click, easy to use interface.
-Approximately twenty NPC's to interact with.
-Around forty playable rooms in the whole game.
-A completely original story with original art and characters created by James Fenton.
-A game so varied, I flipped a three sided coin to choose it's genre!
-Full Voice Acting, including the talents of Esme Brand, James Fenton, Shannon Hayes, Rebecca Hanssen and Matt Haynes.
-Full MP3 Soundtrack composed by Adam Haynes.
-It's completely free!

I've had this in my Steam library for ages and finally got around to playing it, and what a bizarre, but strangely endearing, little game it is. Absent is a pretty straightforward little point and click adventure game in the vein of the classics by Lucasarts, though not quite as difficult and convoluted. That said, some puzzles are a bit out there and do seem a bit random and the story makes absolutely no sense, but I think that's part of the charm. Overall, this kind of feels like a parody and homage to the genre that adventure game fans will probably really enjoy. Doubt I'll ever play it again, but I'm glad I gave it a shot after all these years.
Hidden gem! I've played through a bunch of free adventure games and Absent is one of the very best. It's also perhaps one of the ugliest looking, but I don't mind it at all, I find it charming. It's got great voice acting and a fun story. I'd pay for a sequel, it wouldn't even have to look new and shiny.
For a free title this little mystery really knocked my socks off! It seems to have been made primarily by one person and the passion shows, even with the "amateurish" visuals the writing and atmosphere shine through to make this supernatural thriller very fun to play. The performances given by the voice cast are quite nice! They fit the characters well and kept me listening. It was also fun to exhaust different options and use items in strange ways to see how people will react. Definitely some difficult puzzles here and there (I would recommend getting a guide) but between the solid mystery and good atmosphere I can see a lot of old school point-and-click fans getting enjoyment out of this. The humor is chuckle worthy when it needs to be but thankfully the game doesn't get too goofy for the sake of keeping a creepy/somber tone. If you enjoyed stuff like Monkey Island you absolutely should check it out, solid recommendation.
had this game in my library for way too long before enjoying it. its a nice click puzzle story that got me hooked. awesome work by a very small team of people that i hereby thank for their artpiece i got to enjoy over the past days.
