I really wanted to recommend this game, but I’m afraid I cannot. As it stands, the game is quite ambitious, with plenty of mechanics and lots to figure out. However, it ends up being a “wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle” type of experience. Far too many mechanics interact with each other in seemingly nonsensical ways. In matches, confidence, general fitness, and short-term fitness matter far more than player skill. I wouldn’t argue that these things shouldn’t matter, but the game does a terrible job of explaining how to maintain these attributes, or rather, it doesn’t explain it at all. This means that, regardless of which player you are controlling or emulating, you will lose to players far worse than your character. Alcaraz will lose to the world No. 150 in a Slam match, Sinner will get destroyed 6–0, 6–1 by the world No. 70, etc. Any game should allow for upsets, but that’s exactly what they should be: upsets. They cannot be the norm. On another note: localization. You should not play this game unless you speak French. I saw the developer promoting the game on the tennis subreddits and been wanting to play a tennis management game as it is the sport I mostly watch. I haven't really tried Tennis Elbow Manager so I have no comparison but I have to say that for a game being developed by one person, it is a good start. I like that you can control a lot of aspects especially during match play but I am not sure you are able to tell what adjustments worked well or not. Although I have gone through 4 or 5 new careers, my player has only won 1 out of 10 matches, majority against players ranked 400 spots below me. And my player never holds serve at all. Maybe something to do with confidence? But then again to be fair, I have been starting out with 17-18 year old players so might tweak their ages to see if it changes. Bank loans really help in the beginning so that you can upgrade your house to give you a leg up in boosting some of your stats. But winning matches is the most viable option to get you career going and it seems to be the most difficult thing to do at the moment.
