About Age of Goblins

Age of Goblins is a casual RTS inspired by some classics of the genre, bringing chaos to the battlefield with frantic matches and a lot of tactical mastery while simplifying controls and mechanics, allowing you to sit down and have fun right away without spending hours learning how to play.

Your goal is to lead an expanding goblin tribe and conquer all stages, extinguishing rival tribes and keeping everything for yourself. It may sound a bit selfish, but they will also do everything to make you disappear from the map (literally), and you can't just stand there watching while arrows fly everywhere, right?
  • Tactical Expansion: Conquer new caves, towers, and farms to grow your small empire of little creatures.
  • Manage your stocks: Without food, goblins don't reproduce. Gather from nature or cultivate your own.
  • Dozens of maps: Individually hand-drawn, with various biomes and different strategies for victory.
  • Earn blessings: The gods reward those who do well in battle. Use abilities to turn the game in your favor.
  • Chaotic pace: Hundreds of units crossing the map and invading your territories.
  • Personal record: Record your best times and try new tactics to improve your performance.
  • Build your tribe: Nothing like going to war with some visual customizations. It's good for self-esteem.

Don't be fooled by the cute visuals. Despite having simple commands, Age of Goblins can require a lot of agility and quick decision-making at times, just like the good old classic RTS games.
Some maps can be really challenging, so keep that in mind before playing, okay?!

* This is the dev's first published game, made solo and with a lot of love over the course of a year. By purchasing it, you contribute to the creation of new games and new experiences. My heartfelt thanks...

and may your tribe triumph!

No difficulty curve what so ever, it's just plain HARD, even the first level after tutorial is pretty hard. You have little room for mistakes and only ONE possible way to win a level, if you try to be creative you'll fail. If you forget a shortcut and try a few wrong clicks, you fail. If you take more than 1 second to do the ONLY ONE RIGHT MOVE, you fail. Upgrades? Nope. Progression? Yes, it gets more difficult on each level. Tips? Yes, but useless. I really wanted to like this game but calling it an RTS is a stretch, simplified mechanics? yeah, do specific actions at specific times or... you fail. Challenging at times? Yeah, all the times. I wish I could grind some currency to upgrade something to make it easier, have some room for exploration on different strategies, room for mistakes, room for... fun? As it is it's only frustration with litte to no fun.

This is by all means a great game but ruined by its lack of polish with its economic / food system. In reality, the games difficulty is solely built around several maps weaponizing this weak point against the player which personally frustrated me. One map in particular starts the player off with 600 food an no way to gather more, meanwhile the enemy AI starts with what I can only assume is about 5000+ food. The map keeps you fighting until your food runs out and you get overwhelmed by the AI's sheer numbers. Winning these maps never feels like a matter of skill, but more akin to banging my head against a doorknob until I get lucky enough for the door to open. Sure I won, but I don't really know why and I'm not convinced I learned anything new to move forward with.. I assume enough people complained about the system that it compelled the Dev to pin a topic about it under the discussion page. Here they essentially doubled down on the design decision, which is why I cannot recommend it at this time. I vaguely remember a quote I once heard: Listen to your audience when they say is a joke is unfunny but not how to fix it.

A fun minimalist RTS, with some fairly challenging levels. Really cool concept and execution

Why do these all ennemy units meet, push themselve, but don't fight on the way ? Computer is so strong to profit when you make any unit leave, just multiplicate the actions to trap him and wooo you strong... Nope, it needs more dynamism on the battlefield and not just with arrows from bases or towers. Also, I mind how computer creates so many units without food. They have triple our available mushrooms ?
