About Alekhine's Gun
Play as a rogue Russian assassin during the Cold War, navigating open-ended missions across 11 locations with complete freedom in how you approach each target—using stealth, disguises, poisons, or staged accidents. Uncover a shadowy conspiracy that blurs the lines between enemy and ally as you work with the CIA against your former country in a race against nuclear catastrophe.
Working alongside American CIA agents, your mission is clear - though how you accomplish it is anything but - as the tension of a nuclear standoff grows with each passing minute. Enemies and allies blur; truth is as nebulous as your identity. In a world where one wrong move could be the end of you, navigating a new direction comes at a price.
Features:
- TRAVERSE 11 OPEN GAME LEVELS - Play through open environments with non-linear missions within intriguing U.S., European, and Cuban locations. Explore multiple routes, hidden rooms, and numerous methods to execute assignments. Move freely within your surroundings. Tackle objectives in any order you choose.
- CONTROL YOUR MISSIONS - Complete each stage within the missions based on your own personal strategy and play style. Experiment with tactics such as using poisons, staging accidents, or purposely alerting guards.
- MAXIMISE YOUR STEALTH RANKING - Create distractions, pick locks, take on enemy disguises, retrieve vital documents to discover new information, and use specialised weapons to dispose of enemies. Gain additional weapons after each level based on your ability to complete missions without causing attention.
- EXPERIENCE COLD WAR ESPIONAGE - Alekhine's Gun takes place in a time of extreme hostility and tension, beginning in the early years of the Cold War after WWII and extending through the early 1960s Cuban Missile Crisis. Experience cinematic cut scenes that add layers of intrigue and offer information to help unravel the plot, while providing a historical perspective of this time period.

If you like stealth games, don't buy this one—go get Hitman instead.7 found this helpful
EDIT: Oh boy, can now say without a doubt this is the worst pile of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in the spy/hitman genre i've played so far. It's slightly amusing playing on easy, where you can actually go around with the freedom to kill who you need and not be penalised for it. You can also happily play russian dress up barbie to your hearts content and make your life easier while infiltrating by getting to places without raising too much suspicion, or any at all if you play it right. Then comes Saboteur difficulty for the harder achievements. For someone like me that has an obsessive compulsion to play through just about any game to platinum (as long as its not a million ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ filler ones that aren't really achievements, rely on ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ luck, or multiplayer dependant), or even if its ♥♥♥♥ like this "game"; this "game" is a nightmare. I had no real issues gaining just about all the other achievements so far, except for the ones where you have to fight through the pure and utter ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ player detection to be a "ghost". Combine this with not being able to kill who you need, even if you hide the bodies properly, and not able to play dress up to get around, and throw in your useless "instinct" t…1 found this helpful

Plays like older Hitman games; similar to Contracts and Blood Money but with a WW2 backdrop. Not bad, albeit quite dated, even when it was newly released; it released at the same time the first WOA game released and the difference is substantial. Controller support needs to be manually enabled in games settings. Worth buying on a sale. Needs cloud saves though
For those not familiar with the Death to Spies franchise, you're going to have a very mediocre time. If you are, welcome to the third entry. Death to Spies is a copy (and a damn good one) of the original Hitman games. Composed entirely from Hitman 2: Silent Assassin. For all intensive purposes, it is Hitman 2 with World War 2 skin. Where the first D.T.S. game was lackluster in direction and even story, the second game Moment of Truth had far better game play, better A.I., direction and was the better of the two games. Then comes Alekhine's Gun, a game that was thrown into the trash instantly upon release and no one looked at it. It is the third entry, and just an hour and a half in, it's the superior of the three. With far better controls, and even copying Hitman: Absolution's instinct feature to find items. Much like Hitman 2, the first level of Alekhine's Gun took me nearly an hour to complete being as quiet as I could, and still getting a poor rating. The stealth is tough, and it just gives that much more satisfaction when you are able to pass an area and ghost it. While even by 2016's standards, the graphics are roughly ten years outdated. Looking almost like 2007's Hitman Bl…
