Play as a retired assassin dragged back into a life of murder by betrayal, accepting contracts across exotic global locations while navigating a world where loyalty is worthless and every decision carries lethal consequences. Blend stealth and aggression in a non-linear playground where you choose how to eliminate targets—from silent poison and sniper shots to direct confrontation—using an arsenal of specialized tools and weapons across first and third-person perspectives.

Players note that this older Hitman title requires technical fixes (DLL patches and DirectPlay enablement) to run on modern PCs, with some reporting it remains unplayable despite these workarounds. The game is praised as an improvement over the original Codename 47, but criticized for not playing like a traditional stealth Hitman game—detection is frequent and players often resort to killing everyone on the map rather than stealthy assassinations. Overall, enjoyment seems heavily driven by nostalgia, and players await a promised remake or remaster to experience the levels as intended.
For modern PCs, you need to download the dll fix and also enable directplay in your settings.1 found this helpful
I love the hitman games, but... if you play this like a hitman game you will hate your experience. This is definitely a game where you will regularly get detected, and everyone on the map immediately knows where you are. It's more of a kill everyone challenge. Can't wait until they release the master and I can play these levels right!1 found this helpful
Unplayable on modern PC, do not buy.
hoping that those of us who own the original get a copy of the remake next year <3
Much Much better than Codename 47, although it leaves much to be desired and still feels like a beta than a fully fleshed game
