An Abyss of Dreams

Excellent vibes and decent puzzle design but a relentlessly bleak story makes this one a miss. I know what you're probably thinking: "it's a horror game about an orphanage, were you expecting something happy?" but hear me out, okay? I've played plenty of games with grim storylines and depressing endings and this is on another level. Orphans starving in cages, orphans being whipped until they bleed, orphans....having worse things happen that I won't spoil. Every single orphan NPC you can interact with talks about how they miss their home and how they are hungry and sad and tired and suffering and oh my gosh we get it already. The first few experiences were effective but by the time I met the fifth orphan dealing with something horrific, I didn't even care anymore. At a certain point you just run out of sympathy and need some new emotions to experience. As I said, I was prepared for a dark story but there needs to be more to the story to make it worth the misery. The game's description talks about confronting "the dark legacy of Quebec’s Catholic institutions and the children left in their care" but this is just a collection of awful things happening to innocent children over and…

Loved this game! Reminds me of Scratches and Dark Fall. Some challenging puzzles, but not too tough overall. It took me maybe 4 hours to complete. I left the game on which is why it looks like it took a lot longer. lol Great storyline and engaging experience! I love classic late 90's. early 00's point n' click games where it's all brains with little to no chasing/stealth mechanics. Can't wait for another one from these devs!

This is a great game!! The game play is just what you'd expect from a classic point and click game. I really enjoyed the visuals, voice acting and story telling. This game proves that a game doesn't need to be super long to be great. I didn't experience any technical issues, it ran great. I did struggle with two of the main puzzles. It probably was just a me thing. But I wish there were more clues around to help solve them. A quick google search helped me figure them out though. So don't let those puzzles stop you from playing this game!! I really like this Dev and can't wait for the next game!!

way too complicated. i like puzzles but not if i need a walkthrough right from the start. i asked for a refund.

If you're a fan of Scratches/Asylum or anything in that style, then this'll be right up your alley. The story is dark and disturbing even without the cosmic horror/lovecraftian elements and is fleshed out enough that it could have carried the game all by itself. But here they tossed in that lovecraft for a little extra spice. Think Midnight Mass- where the religious horror by itself would have made a disturbing enough series, but then also there was a monster to add more drama and a touch of "but is MAN the real monster?". The puzzles were both simple enough to not have me spending ages on them, but clever enough that I did have to take some notes and be attentive. The sound design is peak. Its super oppressive and uncomfortable. Both claustrophobic and exposing. Also learned a little Quebec history :) I did at some point break the game on-stream, but the dev immediately fixed it so big thanks for being so attentive and quick to resolve issues! Definitely looking forward to the next game!
