About Ascend The Well

Ascend The Well is a challenging platformer where you need to use your grappling hook to make your way up a well. Making your way up can be quite tricky, which is why you need to make sure your grappling hook shots are precise.

Refund requested. How is it possible to screw up a concept this simple? Conceptually, this game is great. A simple, straightforward grappling game where you point your mouse at where you want the rope to go, then pull yourself up one ledge at a time. However, everything here is done wrong: The grapple is deliberately programmed to NOT shoot in the direction you're actually aiming, but rather off at an angle to it in order to simulate gravity, but this adds more frustration than realism or immersion, especially since gravity doesn't affect the player character in the same way: you can magically shoot straight up meters at a time. Also, the rope magically phases through ledges so that you can easily end up on the other side of the wall you hooked the grapple to, with the rope passing straight through the wall. And worst of all, the grapple can't be thrown while falling so one mistake and you're all the way back at the bottom. The music is utterly wrong for the genre. The sound effects are bugged, and go silent after a while. The game isn't programmed to support common-place monitor resolutions. This game is like a case study on bad programming.

The grappling hook has a very weird drop to it that feels very unnatural and slow. Right from the beginning it's hard to even get started because you can barely reach the point in which you're supposed to grab to start ascending. Overall I wouldn't recommend The game as I had a hard time even getting 5 minutes in so I could leave a review.

Ascend The Well is a challenging platforming experience developed and published by EagleEye Games that centers on a deceptively simple objective: escape from the depths of a massive well by climbing to the top. Beneath this straightforward premise lies a game built around precision, patience, and determination. Every section of the ascent demands concentration, turning what initially appears to be a modest platformer into an intense test of skill where progress must be earned through careful execution rather than handed to the player. The game's primary strength comes from its commitment to pure platforming. There are no complicated progression systems, elaborate combat mechanics, or distracting side activities. Instead, the focus remains entirely on movement and navigation. Players must learn how to control their character effectively, judge distances accurately, and maintain composure while traversing increasingly dangerous obstacles. This streamlined design ensures that every challenge feels meaningful and that success is directly tied to player skill. One of the most engaging aspects of Ascend The Well is the constant sense of risk that accompanies every climb. The higher pla…

Might be the worst game of all time. Strongly advise against playing it, but if you want to prove me right, I guess I can't stop you.
