About ASCIIDENT
STORY
The story of the game is based on sci-fi novel "Frango Anomaly". The hero is a human clone who escaped from space pirates. The first location is asteroid FA-17, colonized a couple of millennia ago. The mining of crystals is still ongoing, but... right now crystals are dropping in price. If it weren't for the convenient location for the transshipment base, the asteroid would have been abandoned long ago. However, entire areas of the asteroid have already been abandoned. Life here moves at its own pace and by its own rules.

STYLE
Absolutely all the graphics in the game are made using the characters that could be typed on the keyboard. To be more precise, the characters from the ASCII table from the 32nd to the 126th character are used.
The texts in the game are localized in several languages and may contain characters, not from the authentic range. However, these characters are not involved in the design. Graphics are ASCII only.

LOCATIONS
The location "Asteroid FA-17", in which the spaceport is located, is currently under development. It will be possible to move to neighboring planets and stations from the spaceport. You can move to another location at any time if you will have the necessary resources and skills.

BOSSES AND NPC
The game has a large number of neutral and hostile creatures. Neutral characters can provide information, upgrade skills, and craft items.
Caution, some neutral characters can become hostile.

SKILLS
One of the advantages of clones is that they can be trained in various skills almost instantly. This requires a neuroprogrammer. This is a device that can change the structure of brain neurons. Also, a person or other creature with the appropriate skill is needed. In the current version of the game, the following skills are available:
- Life force
- Inventory space
- Radiation resistance
- Holding breath
- Melee weaponry
- Thrown weaponry
- Plasma weaponry
- Piloting
- Hyperspace
- Navigation
- Hand-to-hand combat

BUILT-IN GAMES
The game world contains computer terminals with built-in games. Each game can bring the player an in-game currency.

COLOR MODES AND FONT
You can choose one of eight retro color modes in the game options: True Color, three monochrome modes, 16-color mode (DOS / Mac), 2-bit and Game Boy mode.
Also LED font mode is available in options. In this mode, each pixel of each character is separated from neighboring ones.

CURRENT STATE OF THE PROJECT
This is the current state of the game, which I update often. Added a new item / resource - updated. A new boss appeared in a new location - updated. New music, new game modes, etc. About two hours of gameplay are available in the location "Asteroid FA-17" now.

This was originally a positive review but sadly, there's not been one word form the dev on any further development beyond the initial demo so now in April 2024 I'm calling this abandoned and editing this and making it a negative review. As it stands, it's a playable demo that shows off some incredible vision and fantastic gameplay elements. I was really looking forward to further development but it never eventuated. The dev has been working on other projects but all are missing some of the elements that made ASCIIDENT's demo (because that's all this is) so great. ASCIILL is fun but it's not ASCIIDENT. ASCIIDENT was very unique and fun with some really cool gameplay elements and every subsequent game from the same dev is missing some of what ASCIIDENT had. The last update to ASCIIDENT was Jan '21 (and I bought it just after that). In Feb '21 the developer announced he was changing the game engine over to Unity but there's been very little word since. In Aug '21 someone asked if there were any updates and the dev replied that the engine change was taking more time than planned. Up until Sep '21 there were some posts on the FB page showing off new elements but no updates to users…24 found this helpful
Seriously enjoyed the game but I was shocked I paid 10 dollars for a demo. you will get 2 hrs max out of this I played around and goofed off I am not going to refund I just hope it gets finished. I don't want to leave a negative review but I hope people see this isn't a feature complete game. Edit: Development for this game has been stale for 3 years. I would not buy it unless you want a demo.13 found this helpful
This game is "out of early access" but that's misleading. It's still only a demo, and given the lack of updates, will likely remain that for the foreseeable future. The concept is good, but it's VERY unfinished. Remember, you're paying for a demo, nothing more.4 found this helpful
A gem of a game. One of the most fun games I have played in a long time - and yet it hasn't been updated in 4 years. Not even a status update. For that reason, I simply cannot recommend this game, unless you want to waste your money on a single-stage demo. DO NOT buy this game.3 found this helpful
Still (end of 2023) demo with 2.5h gameplay. Unfortunately.
This game has unmached potential. ASCIIDENT is a mix of minecraft with action RPG and platforming. So you will be grinding in some stages of the game, like mining too much, killing too much enemies and that may not be attractive for everyone. Thing is, if you like this type of thing you will totally love ASCIIDENT. You either love it or hate it. Tho i must warn you that most zillennials (or in general, ppl that cant do the same thing for 2 minutes) will have a hard time in this game. The level design, alongside the art choise, is the best of the game. In many times it resides on strategy to actually move around. In many times you can either get more resources by destroying the enviroment, but if you do that too much you may end up having a hard time parkouring and all. The level design also comes hand in hand with the combat. You must move and destroy (or not destroy) the enviroment so that it makes your battle easier (or harder). The fact that you can have different weapons for different purposes is a plus too. The graphics are astonishing, never seen something like that before. I played Stone Story RPG and Candy Box, but this art style is totally different from anything that came…
