About Astral Coconut
Astral Coconut was a student project completed in 4 months by a team of game design students. The game is an action adventure 3D platformer set in a sci-fi fantasy world. Skate your way through large open areas in this fluid, atmospheric platforming adventure. Leap, dash, grapple, and grind to maintain constant momentum as you fight your way through the treacherous terrain.
Conquer the alien world by utilizing intuitive, flowing combat that always keeps you moving forward. Upgrade your attributes to allow you to take on harder challenges as you progress deeper into the heart of the world.
Fight through the planet's inhabitants, cross deadly landscape, and seek your ultimate goal at the end of the world!

This game has the perfect artstyle and vibe that I was looking for, the story idea isn't that bad, but definetly needs a bit of rework -Here is a bunch of advices from SweetRax.Inc to make your game better: •Add graphical settings, so we can at least disable motion blur •Make the character movement slightly smoother and more polished •Fix sound design (monsters dying sound makes my ears bleed) •Make map and UI look more simple This game has a lot of potential, so I hope I helped figuring out what's wrong about this game1 found this helpful
It's a free skating platformer, with grappling and time slow down mechanics. Motion is quite fluid, and for the most part the jumping and movement performs the way you want it to. Took about 2 hours to finish, though I did find a skip that saved some time. Checkpoints are forgiving, and the performance is good. Game is divided into several sections where you have to collect coconuts akin to how in Mario Sunshine you were teleported to those shadow levels. Worth checking out if the trailer looks good :)
"Astral Coconut" is one of literally thousands of student projects infesting Steam. While student projects tend to be better quality than most "amateur" made games, we must still question what value such projects have for gamers. As with all student projects, this isn't really a fully fleshed out game, it's just the result of an academic exercise, and as such it has much more limited value as a game than a professionally developed game would have. Educational institutions should not be using Steam as a dumping ground for homework assignments (especially if the students didn't even pass the course). Sure, it helps their marketing and helps the students feel good about themselves, but this is another case of a business putting themselves before the needs of gamers. The students gave it the old college try to make a 3D platformer brawler and wow, it's bad. The assets are really very poor quality, somewhat low poly neon junk, combined with minimalist backdrops... and the assets are the best part of this. Basic stuff like some of the attacks and so on just don't work (but they published this anyway, gotta pad the portfolio, what's good for gamers doesn't matter). It's an unpoli…
I'll have to keep this review brief because I'm making a pizza right now. I've been learning about this game from a website called nerdtests.com, on the surface it's a pretty stupid site, the front page is filled with a bunch of those "what is your Hogwarts House?" type quizzes, just silly stuff. But once you really get into the nitty-gritty of it all, like, they know. I met a lot of people on there who taught me about Astral Coconut on some of the deeper forums. They're only accessible through an extension called nerdtests plus (which is only available on OperaGX and Chrome). It lets you access some of the more serious pages and see user's IP address because of course you don't sign up with usernames. Anyway, once I got into the deeper forums on nerdtests, I met a lot of friendly faces who knew were generous enough to show me the ropes around the game. A lot of things on the site are pretty basic but once you're in the know, or get lucky enough to find communities or circles of users, they can teach you like a lot. They know. Learning about Astral Coconut and the lore surrounding it has been great. The game, while rough around the edges, is something I really really enjoy, Anyway …
While it is free, it had even my computer well above recommended specs hitting above 70 degrees C to run it, and there are no graphics settings to tone it down. That's a major point against it, but even if it was better optimized, I don't think I would like it. The combat feels heavily unbalanced with the ground enemies being no threat at all while the flying enemies are consistent annoyances, the platforming is pretty limited and barebones without the momentum skating should entail (though the high speed levels are fun) - but probably the worst thing in the game right now is the grind rails. They simply don't work; they'll either try to launch you back the way you came, turn you around at the edge of the rail, or they'll slow you down to a crawl. It feels like pure luck that I was able to even reach the final boss because the grind rail was just too steep and other attempts to cheese (including doing nothing) saw me clip right through.
