Axolotl Swim

Cute little game. Story mode can feel a bit like a drag given there's not enough obstacles to really feel like you have to dodge all that much and the first boss is by far the hardest one, but once you get through it and start endless mode they throw all the obstacles at you from the story mode which makes it seem more like a tutorial for it and with the more plentiful obstacles it makes for a more exciting challenge. Having powerups fly through the stream is also a good addition since it encourages the player to make riskier maneuvers to catch them flying by. The overall aesthetic is quite charming and the humor is pretty funny, I like having the propeller hat on my axolotl it's very cute. Music is also really soothing and really good like it a lot. Minigame is fine, probably better with multiple people but idk. Not that big on the gambling since the odds seem rather low to actually get that extra continue and sometimes I'd rather be booted back to the start or at the very least skip the gambling.

Axolotl Swim is such a cute little game that I immediately understood why I was enjoying it. I play as John Axolotl and simply try to swim my way through an underwater world while avoiding all sorts of hazards. It has the feeling of an old Flash game, and I actually think that simple approach works really well here because I can start playing almost instantly. The main gameplay revolves around moving through the water and collecting different items along the way. Orange fish refill my dash, hearts restore my health and treasure chests give me points that I can eventually spend in the shop. I liked how these pickups give me reasons to take risks rather than simply trying to survive. Sometimes it is worth moving toward something valuable even when there is a dangerous obstacle nearby. The hazards are where the game becomes more challenging. Mines, electric eels and other underwater obstacles force me to pay attention to what is ahead while managing my movement. The dash is especially useful for getting through dangerous sections, but I have to think about when I want to use it because collecting fish to refill it becomes part of the strategy.
