✦ AI summary

Axom is a well-made tower defense roguelike that successfully combines fresh mechanics with solid balance, earning praise for its engaging gameplay loop where random map generation and limited tower availability force constant adaptation and strategic thinking. However, players note some significant issues including uneven tower and upgrade balance, occasional game-breaking bugs like enemies glitching over terrain, performance problems on AMD systems, and freezing at higher difficulty levels that detract from an otherwise promising experience.

This is a hidden gem. For an indie dev, everything is well made and there is thought put into towers and enemies and upgrades. You can see the dev wanted to make a good game, and they were successful. The graphics style is nice, and the game handles nicely large amount of enemies and projectiles (those who complain about performance and crashes are on amd cards which is unfortunate but if you got something else you won't see any crashes or problems). There's a lot to play here, even after 20 hours I haven't unlocked everything so you get your moneys worth for sure. You discover different upgrades and power ups every round so every round is different which keeps you going for another run. If I had to list some cons, its that there are clearly some things are stronger than others, but overall there are no useless towers. And there is lack of meaningful end goal; it's a roguelite TD so it's pretty much play the game as long as you think its fun. I would have liked there to be some sort of goal to go for that would give the feeling of "I beat the game" and then you could keep going for fun. You could say unlocking everything and beating hardest difficulty is end goal, but for me that…

Love the gameplay loop. Hoping for more biomes and more ways to deal with infected ground (randomly spawning then exponentially growing terrain that destroys your structures)

I think it's a great little tower defense game!! I enjoy burning time on it when I need break or quick reset. repetitive but for the price I am not expecting a AAA title.

This is a soft no; for $10, someone is bound to love this more than I do---there is enough content to justify the cost for someone that would enjoy how this is. I don't know what it is about this game, but I can't bring myself to enjoy it as much as I should be able to. Maybe if walls redirected paths instead of becoming objects of destruction, maybe if the research didn't take as long to achieve, maybe if the upgrades and relics, which have some good ones, weren't packed with crap. Nothing seems...unique enough with what I'm doing except some random thing that happens once along the waves. I don't know. Classes...benefits besides the nexus benefits. I don't know.

In short Great mash-up tower defense with some rogue-like spice to keep it fresh. Games tough, but not impossible. Runs pretty smooth on a potato. Long Boi You're basically doing a smash and grab mission for resources. You crash land, set up a crude defenses, and then turn on the drill. Each time you drill the local (very zerg-like) wildlife says "naw-f that" and will attack your core drill and any satellite refineries. Combines a bunch of features from OG tower defense games as well as adding in some of its own flare. Some of these features are hidden behind capsules found during the round or by unlocking a new drill. It does force some meta progression as the later difficulties are near impossible without them. Some upgrades are completely essential to success. All in all, a great little time waster if you have 30 minutes to burn here and there. Manages to stay fresh with each run. 5/5

Great TD game, with good replayability. I will warn however, with a weaker machine game becomes nearly unplayable around wave 35 or so, just start the wave and pray your defences are good enough on their own. Also some of mechanics seems to make it worse.
