Babol the Walking Box

Similar to Gamecom Team’s previous title, A Day Without Me, you notice Babol’s short development time, which, paired with ambitions that are too high, ensure an unpolished gaming experience with gross design flaws. It’s a shame because the team’s approach towards an entertaining platformer is not wrong, but a significantly lower level of difficulty would have matched the casual overall impression. Babol The Walking Box is too imprecise and straightforward to keep up with the greats of the genre and too frustrating to serve as a relaxed but entertaining jumping experience. This is clearly a rage game. But the developer decided to use cheap tactics instead of difficult ones. Which is common in rage games. Rage games can be fun but here is why this game isn't fun. - Camera is positioned too far from the character so its really hard to gauge where anything is - Camera gets blocked a lot - Camera moves in weird angles making the player have to move the character in weird angles - There is fog or bright lights or darkness or a bunch of stuff that impedes the players vision in a game that already has a terrible camera - The character slides like he is on ice - The levels are pretty much the same thing over and over but you are either going forward or back or sideways - Puzzle door you used like twice and I have no idea how I even opened them There is also a bunch of rage things like enemies flying out of nowhere, explosive boxes being places exactly where the player would go, the enemies allowed to blow up the boxes and not get hurt etc. But in a well made rage game these things come off as cheeky while in a poorly made rage game it only makes the game feel cheaper. Really love the concept and Crash Bandicoot nostalgia, but the control is a bit delayed and the collision precision is too sensitive that sometimes I got hit by an obstacle that I didn't touch. Jump precision is also bad, when I walked on the edge of platform somehow I cannot jump and fell over. It's more frustrating rather than challenging :(
