About Baggage Inspector

Baggage Inspector… a job title that speaks excitement! Passion! Adventure! Or… maybe not. Ok. Definitely not. Can you imagine a less exciting job, than standing at a conveyor belt, taking suitcase after suitcase, fiddling with their locks, opening, closing, pulling them through the computer scanner, dragging them to the correct dispatch gate… oh, and discovering drugs, firearms, and… wait, are those explosives? What do you mean, they’re primed to go off? Is that an active countdown timer?!

In Baggage Inspector, you put on the gloves of a brand new inspector, commencing training at the futuristic Interplanetary Transfer Station, where you will control the flow of traffic between Earth and the mining colonies on the Outer Planets. But before you even begin this assignment, you must first learn on the job. And what better way to learn, than… in a virtual reality simulated scenario? Step into VR-within-VR, where you will train by checking bags for the oppressive regime of Redlandia, where nothing is what it seems.
Had fun with all those simulator games? We did too! But there was something missing, something we couldn’t put our fingers on… yes, that’s it! Hands! Baggage Inspector is the next step in your VR journey: use your controllers as gloves, grab things by wrapping your virtual fingers around them, and… be careful, that’s a heavy case! Use both hands at once. With Baggage Inspector, you can train yourself for more advanced VR titles.
Think suitcases are all the same? Think again! You will open a variety of different locks, from ordinary button-operated ones, through zippers, and keycode locks. Then there’s those cases that just won’t open without the help of your trusty knife. And those filled with concealed bio-contaminants you just won’t detect without your Sniffer Tool. Did we mention some concealed items will only reveal themselves on the x-ray scanner? Let’s not even mention the Spray Tool. Expensive bags, precious contents, and spray paint - what could go wrong?
Not ready for VR? No problem! Baggage inspector allows you to also play on a traditional flatscreen, using mouse and keyboard.
No two bags are ever alike, and no day’s job is ever the same, resulting in an ever-changing story. Play as much as you like!

The idea is cool, but the game is held back very much by it's awkward controls. A more simple, traditional control scheme where you can actually just pick stuff up where you point (instead of awkwardly trying to point with your wrist) would have been better. The teleporting system is awkward (you need to point your thumbstick into a specific corner and then aim with your wrist. whut) so walking around with the left thumbstick is the best way to get around. Also had a suitcase flying in space when I locked it in place and then simply tried to unlock it. The physics system was desperately trying to get that suitcase back in check, but couldn't. I couldn't get that suitcase back either. Performance tanked after that (obviously, the physics system was still working hard on that flying stuck suitcase) and that's where I gave up.

the base controls are awful, it's like someone tried to remake half life alyx controls while having looked at half life alyx controls for 5 minutes on top of this, most extra features are accessed via pressing the thumbstick in some precise directions, which more often than not ends up snapping your view, which is very jarring I could only bear playing far enough to get the scanner tool, which for some insane reason is hidden behind 4 layers of menus (first move the thumbstick to the tool panel button, then grab the scanner from the tool panel, then press a physical button to bring up the scanner's menu, then click-hold a button to access the actual scanner feature) such a basic and important tool (it explicitly tells you what an item is and what its made of) should be accessible nearly instantly (imho as fast as the alyx multiool for example) the game is riddled with very loud shrill sounds, to the point where it's unbearable without dropping the UI sounds to 0 I stopped playing when the extended tutorial phase (i.e. the funny papers please inspired redlandia scenario) forced me to use the xray scanner machine, which for some insane reason never worked my main opinion after…

Just a BIG NO! There are sverall things in this Game, that are just bad and no fun to use. First thing is I have Pico Controllers (cause I use a pico 4) but in game I have quest controllers and have to weirdly twist my hands to teleport (which I never used) or point at something, that´s still okayish. Second: Why are there always those orange circles around my hands? Why is the text in the tutorial floating around in text of the baggage so I get eye cancer from reading it? Third: There are severall controlls for the same thing, as if the developer noticed during development that certain mechanics only work if you have enough space. And last but not least the simulated weight ... IS .. AWFUL!! Why is everything so sluggish? I wouldn´t recommend the game in it´s current state at all.

Played in VR on a Quest 2. The tutorial is weird, the controls aren't intuitive. There is almost none settings for VR. The gameplay was a bit choppy.
